Evening all, a mate called me yesterday to tell me he has acquired a reliant robin 850 sport. He knows nothing about motors and thought it was worth ££££.
I say it's worth about £1200 in fully running order with a new ticket. What do you guys think?
It's a 1981 car and has been dry stored by its only owner for apparently 30yrs. I told matey I'd give him £150 as it is and he wasn't impressed.
The offer on the table now is, I clean it up and fit new tyres, service kit and new oils. But if grease where needed and put a ticket on it. We put it up for sale for £1200 hoping for no less then £800.
Question is am I wasting my time or are these things sellers? I have been on eBay to find that the prices are all over the shop. Late ninties models are in the thousands but oldies like this one are from pigs @ £300ish and apparent road goers upto £1500. Some can be bought for £500ish. So I'm not too convinced I'm doing the right thing.
Your opinions please folks.

I personally only do stuff like this if I'm happy to be lumbered with it if it doesn't sell.
Also I try to avoid people who know nothing about the thing they're selling and tell you 'I know what it's worth mate!' When usually they have got the wrong end of the stick or they mistakenly think their curse word box is worth as much as a minter.
Anyway... I would take a risk if I knew it could sell easily enough with potential to make a bit on top for your troubles. Assuming you will do a nice job and end up with a nice safe car for someone to buy.
Get it running, sort the niggles, make it tidy and dosh on an MOT. Got to be worth something to someone.

Guess how much my brothers was and which car started at 200? Finding somewhere to mot it is also not as easy as you might think if like me you live a bit out in the sticks. I think the older shape ones seem to fetch good money. Ours is an original yellow one so probably worth more than any other colour

Well if it doesn't sell it would be a great novelty motor. The missus can't wait to be chauffeured about in it.
Its Brown so not the nicest if colours.
MOT wise shouldn't be a problem for me.
As far as I'm aware it drove into the garage it was stored in so should just be a case of fresh everything and a new battery to get her tested and safe. Hopefully the chassis is ok but I saw one for about £50 on the bay.
I Was hoping we had a Robin owner on the site for any known faults or whatnot. As I have never touched one other then to have a drive.

A bit off topic but I would personally like to thank you for calling it a Reliant Robin and not a bleeding Robin Reliant.

Had a Reliant Robin as a stop gap / got lots of attention when out n about. Put it up for sale around £ 500 and it went for £ 450 after one day advertised. No minter either but it was still going recently so reliability must be one of its good points. Probably the market varies and often folk overprice a vehicle on a chancer basis but a realistic price attracts a realistic buyer Actual car i had for sale.

I gave my 1981 Robin away for the cost of the tyres (£100). These things have to be spot on condition wise to get the £1500.

I'm just loving the fact that some delusional marketing comedian from Reliant thought he could get away with using the word 'sport' in relation to a Robin!
