There's quite a bit on the web around the flash yankee garages but not much at all regarding our small "cant swing a cat" garages most of us have! So...just for a bit of sharing of ideas I have created a FB page called UK Home Garages where I'm hoping to get a bit of momentum going. I don't have a business or owt to promote, just a garage corner on the web! If anyone would like to help getting it going by posting garage photo's, what you do in it or whats parked in it, that would be great. If this is ok with R&R admin, here's the fb linky: www.facebook.com/ukhomegarage/Cheers Martin

You had a bad experience then? Maybe it will bite me, but I try & see the positive in people & the respect car nuts have for each other!

couldnt think of a better way of telling the theiving community whats hiding in your garage TBF, it would be a bit difficult to procure the actual address/location of a garage purely by a picture. Aside from that, any link to the poster wouldn't be much help either so long as the privacy settings were cranked up, which they should be anyway.

If I were still on FB, I'd gladly stick a couple of pics of mine up mate... Although it does need a clean, as always!

Trouble is most peoples facebook is set to open . i have said it before , all you need is a photo of someones house or even part of it and google earth . Depending on how individual the house is and how big the town is you can find a place in minutes .
And THEY do read car forums , after all they are into cars as well in a warped sick way .

What I'd be interested in, is ideas/tips for maximising the space... I've a couple of bolt together shelf units and what was a display unit from an engineering supplies shop, that's very useful, holds a lot of weight, but has better access then a bolt together shelf, no side uprights!
And how to drill into pre-formed concrete.....without it breaking!

Trouble is most peoples facebook is set to open . more fool them tbh, if you don't want people to see your stuff and where it is don't just leave it open to all and sundry to see! if they want my stuff they'll have to find me first, and its insured anyway!

couldnt think of a better way of telling the theiving community whats hiding in your garage I agree It doesn't take much for a link to pop up for the low life such as a friend to post something and they can find out where you live. Never under estimate people who are looking for an easy steal

I must say how did all those cortina's go missing earlier this year ? All targeted specifically . A bunch of thieves cannot of just come across half a dozen of them .
I hate to sound doom and gloom but it was either lack of care using social media or they were followed from car meets .

There are a few pics of my garage about - and my workshop, but I certainly don't want to advertise it too much.
But I WILL share a useful storage tip. You know those metal lockers that are endemic in workplaces, gyms, schools etc? About 6ft tall and a foot square? Pre owned ones can be had for next to nothing, so get half a dozen, bolt them together (if they aren't already) and lay them on their side to form a strong, compact, free standing shelving unit.

Aside from that, any link to the poster wouldn't be much help either so long as the privacy settings were cranked up, which they should be anyway. you can get the locations of photos taken on smartphones and cameras with gps quite easily if the user isnt clever enough to have disabled the gps tags heres a link to a site that you can view the gps and other exif data from a picture www.verexif.com/en/index.php

I'm sure some posting advice on that page would be more than useful then, actually its probably very useful in a much wider context.

I got told off by the electrician doing the 5 yearly safety check (we live in tied accommodation) for hanging my welding kit on the electric meter.
I mean if they don't want you to hang your stuff on the meter why do they make it just the right size and shape to hang things on?
Anyway, as soon as he'd gone it was all back there again.

I too have huge jealousy of the flash Yank garages that come with their own zip code! Our car culture and property culture are vastly different from our friends across the pond. I was contemplating starting a UK garage forum, but I discovered I was lazy. I enjoy reading Garage Journal and various others and wish there was a UK based forum. I too have just deleted my FB account so won't be able to have a look.
