Spotted my old Scimitar on Ebay completed listings last night in a bad state, made me quite sad. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was a running, driving functioning car when i sold it about 8 years ago.It went to a bloke in Tewekesbury from memory, but along the way it's ended up far away less engine in a scrappie on the Kent coast. At least the GB plate i lovingly repainted still looks ok! Still has the original radio i found for it and the Mountney wheel i put in too. Must be a few of us who have spotted our old motors for sale years down the line in a bad (or better state) what you got? When it was mine Now

I sold one of my old minis as a project car. It was complete and just needed the interior and glass putting back in but I was losing its space. Anyway, it was a 1 owner from new car with 60K miles and I sold it to a mini trader who built abandoned projects and sold them on. I don't know what put him off mine but I found bits of it in his completed listings, engine and loom being the most notable as I recognised some of the repaired bits! It hasn't been taxed or MOT'd since.

Yeah the Scim was the same, lost the space as the wife wanted room for a caravan which never happened anyway ! I didn't look for the first year or two i suppose but it's been SORN for years. Somebody did something though,i stripped off the vinyl from the sunroof panel and painted it satin black, looks like someone re covered it so it could peel off again

I saw my dad's 3dr Sierra L on eBay in 2011. The one in my avatar. Was immaculate, tuned 2.0 pinto in, lots of happy memories. When it popped up on eBay it genuinely made me feel sick, roller painted white, half arsed fibreglass cossie kit glued to it. Me and my bro tried to pool what we had to buy it and restore it to how my dad had it but it went for silly money. Didn't save the pics cos I didn't want to see it again now I know what it looks like.

Highvoltage ; is it in a save able condition do younthink ? Just I live in Medway, in Kent, & would be interested in a Scimitar project. Always a fav of mine. Very cool cars. There's a nice looking red one in Rainham. Don't know if the owner is one of us from this site though.

There's a nice looking red one in Rainham. Don't know if the owner is one of us from this site though. I think it's sold now to be honest. It looked like he had three goes at selling it,made about £300 twice and then ended on £180 the last time. The red one next to it in the Ebay photos LLL 44V has ended up with a guy on Scimitarweb i believe so he might have had a poke around my old one too. It's hard to say whether it's saveable now or not really. When i had it the chassis was pretty good,it had been welded on two outriggers but it was solid.Interior was good too but it looks pretty mouldy inside now.The body was decent,no swelling in the sills and there was a ton of history.A guy in London had owned it from nearly new and spent many thousands over the years. It was running a very expensive recent recon 3.1 Essex when i had it,pulled like a train but was a bit smokey,no motor in it now though. It was a manual with overdrive if the box is still in. It had full stainless exhausts and a stainless fuel tank as well,i imagine they are still in place.

I had a MkII Cortina about ten years ago that was pretty nuts (leopardskin headlining, skull print window tints, blah blah). It disappeared after I sold it, but has recently resurfaced in completely different form. Here's what it was like when I had it: 11-02-08_2029 by dbizzle_, on Flickr DSC00110 by dbizzle_, on Flickr ...and I spotted it at the Ace Cafe last year looking like this: DSC_8334 by dbizzle_, on Flickr DSC_8333 by dbizzle_, on Flickr So happy that someone's thrown a lot of time and effort into it. And, brilliantly, I'm writing a feature on it for Retro Ford mag - Diabolu and I are shooting it in a couple of weeks' time!

I had a 1980 Toyota Celica liftback for a couple of years back in the late 90s, till it developed several large faults simultaneously, the heater rad blew, the exhaust disintegrated and the clutch started slipping. So I sold it to a scrapyard. A year or so later it turned up on the road again, in satin black rather than the dysentry beige it had been. I saw it a few times after that, but always going the other way, so I never got a chance to chat with the owner. But it disappeared again about 2006 so its probably bean tins by now! DVJ 2W. It had been the new model demonstrator for the local Toyota dealer and had a very low chassis number. Probably worth a good wedge now, but then it was just another banger that had unfortunately expensive parts.

I sold a bare mini shell to a specialist a few years ago and then spotted it in my local shopping centre car park.
Owned by a young girl who I guess uses it to drive to work, or has some serious issue with shopping. I do have some photos that I will try and put up.
Had a corsa that had the timing chain tensioner fail, blew the thing to bits. Sold that to a guy that knocked on the door about 10 years ago and still see the thing driving around one of the local estates.

Not a retro but I owned an MG ZS around seven years ago, it wasn't that old at the time but I picked it up cheap because the previous owners ex Mrs had keyed it full length both sides and across the boot and bonnet. I had the whole car repainted professionally apart from the roof, it was pristine when I sold it. A couple of years later I spotted it on eBay being sold by a logbook loan company as a repossession looking abit sorry for itself, then last year I spotted it in a breakers in Birmingham I also owned a ZR that I bought as a cat d write off with front end damage. Had it all professionally repaired and repainted kept it for a while then sold it on. Spotted it about three years later being sold as spares or repairs on eBay with the front end smashed in again.

Steve I had one like that too.A Rover SD1 2000 with the O series engine that threw a rod in spectacular fashion.Scrapped it at Addymans yard in North Yorks and never saw it again.Couple of years later i was in Hebdens yard near Harrogate and it was in there with a 2600 motor and autobox. At least it had a reprieve for a while !

I sold my golf mk 1 project very very cheap a few years back in the hope it would get finished, it was at the stage where I had started paintwork, the rear arches had been replaced, the inner wings repaired. The whole car was solid. I then spotted it a few months later on another site after again being sold. It looked like it was being well looked after and having lots of money spent getting it finished.
Then I think this year or the end of last year I did a quick search on ebay completed listings and it had been sold for parts. Then another quick search on google and I clicked a picture link, I was sent back to here on retro rides projects and it had been cut up. I was gutted but I suppose it will live on in other cars.
Another one I had, (not a retro yet) was a mg zs 180 saloon in trophy blue. I sold it last year to help a family member out who needed the money. I loved that car and did a search on the reg this year in may, just out of the blue and it comes up. It was for sale on silverlake auctions and there was about one hour left to bid. I tried desperately to bid but being a salvage auction site registration was required and they told me over the phone there was not enough time to register. I could not believe that i just managed to search and find it that close to finishing and not being able to buy it back, it was torture

I remember doing a thread similar to this a while ago, which was inspired by a blog claiming Wheeler Dealers were a curse on cars: retrorides.proboards.com/thread/173149/killer-reviver-old-cars-aliveBut anyway. The cars I have owned? Yes, it's a mixture. My 944 Turbo looks worse now that I have sold it TBH. It never seems to be clean, and I was hardly washing it every week either! The MOT history also looks interesting with advisories including broken brake sensor wires and brake pad warning lights on. It had no such warnings when I sold it! But it is alive and being used daily . One car of note however is my old Stag. It was sold to a bloke on the Triumph Torque forum looking like this: To this OK, in the shots it looks like all it has gain is a TR6 front spoiler and a lost hubcap, and maybe some bulgier tyres for those looking carefully. In truth the car gained ALOT more before it went on the Triumph 10 Countries tour including: :New doorcards :Custom CV Jointed Prop to replace the old Borg Warner T65 prop previously on it :CV Jointed driveshafts with bearings to go with to ditch the UJ items :Replacement gearbox given in the sale along with another torque converter; I think he took the gearbox out 2 times! :Replacement transmission Cooler and lines :Wards Header tank conversion :Auto Gearbox Lever reworked into more of a working fashion :Brand New Contis to replace the 10 year old Kumhos ;that was meant to make a massive difference to the handling :New Koni dampers all round. :Sump Gasket changed Basically he spent a fortune on the car. But he is enjoying it (I hope!) and it is good to see it is getting the treatment it deserves. When I got it I certainly did alot to attempt to sort it out but it seems Roger has gone on further than I could! Sometimes you are a glad to sell a car because it went to the right owner. It is very rare that happens for me TBH.

That is a lovely looking Stag Chas, nice that it's in good hands.Always leaves the option to buy it back again open !
Colt1982,i can imagine the frustration with the ZS. Secretly i was slightly relieved that my old Scim had already sold when i spotted it.I would have been tempted to try and save it when in reality a large fibreglass car with no engine isn't high on the priority list !

most of mine, even the more notable ones, seem to have disappeared.
stacklight merc. not on system. supposed to have gone to ireland though.
splitscreen van- not on system. odd given its value so i guess exported too?
falcon wagon- not on system, odd as i thought i knew where that was.
'67 squareback type 3. off road since 2007, i have an idea where it is though.
pontiac lowrider- off the road since 2008. i pontentially know where this is too.
the only two cars of note ive even seen since i sold them are the audi 80 that i did that used to be donttellhimpikes, which was still around locally a year or two after i sold it. and my last stacklight merc, which i seen on facebook now and again as i have the new owner on there, its been lavished with some love, some nice wheels and a new interior and stuff.

About 20 years ago, I sold my MK1 Escort to a young lad who'd just passed his test. Had a 1360cc x-flow that ran really nice, & handled like it was on rails. About a year later, I saw it in Autotrader for £700, with a blown engine & looking a lot more shabby.
