Ahhh nuts £70 over budget, I do have two sets of wheels and a tat rack though. Can't link to ads as done dusted, purchased and paid. Need to spend £40 more swapping tyres plus a rattle can.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!
Been pondering this question recently since the days are getting longer and warmer, although the days of £350 Wagon Rs are gone.
Early Agila on Corsa B coilovers could be a cheap car to give 'the treatment'...what else is now cheap and plentiful enough that you can get the car/wheels/coilies package for around the £1k mark?

Funny I was having similar thoughts when someone sent me a car they bought for £200, spent £500 on parts for it and were rolling around in a super cool little thing for less than the tyres on my daily cost me.
Let's resurrect the thread and do some sub £800 car hunting... no age limit.

I was thinking of starting a similar thread, didn’t realise it was such a thing!
I was thinking budget of £1000 which would still be very difficult to hit now.
I think these threads are helpful to restore a bit of vigour and drive. I’m amazed by what some people on here are able to do with a relatively low budget.

I can get as far as this little Matiz for £675 with an MoT, leaving just £125 for anything else which honestly isn't enough, you're going to have to get creative with what you've got, or lucky on your accessories finds. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204253705265 The parameters of the challenge have to be changed somewhat, especially the budget. Make it a £1600 budget and it gets a lot easier, and move away from eBay and into places like Facebook Marketplace and forums and you start being able to find more sensibly priced stuff. That said, I'd probably see if I could chuck these Scimitar wheels on and see what happens. They put us outside the £800 budget with a starting bid of £190, but that's just how it is. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225443079761

I've recently found a EP91 3dr Starlet for sale locally for £800, thats about as close to this as I can get! Trying to help a mate find a set of alloys with good tyres for his BMW & there just arent any cheap sets with good tyres atm.
If what I am hearing is right, scrap sets of alloys are worth £100 & most car's weigh in for close to £500 atm which would explain even the crappiest car's with MOT being £1500. Havent seen mch wrth buying sub £2k!

Nice thread idea, but apart from the higher prices today, the ebay links are pointless after a short time, when the auctions got all deleted. Screenshots would be more useful instead. Not only ebay, but also fbook marketplace, gumtree and whatever. edit: ocasionally a cheap ride is still for sale here on RR. How about a little game of what could be done with these cars and parts offered here? Who doesn't dream sometimes like 'If I were in the position to buy this, I would do that and this to it'? edit 2: that might even help to support certain offers!!

sub £800? be lucky to get much that's half decent for that! Also price and availability of used alloys seemingly gone through the roof as well, used to be able to pic up a set with half decent tread for around £100 or so, now its £200 if you can find a set.
All that aside......probably get a half decent Peugeot 106 or 306 and set of steelies paint them white and some lowering springs for £800
or just pick up something from the ULEZ area that the mayor has condemned as unacceptable

I bought this as my new daily the other week for £820 1.5 Almera S, base spec. It's really tidy for the money compared with a lot of stuff I've seen for sale, 2 previous owners, the last of which for nigh on 21 years, full service history. ULEZ and CAZ OK and E10 compatible also! It's not particularly exciting but that's what the money can get you these days I've not really felt urge to mod it, but lowering springs are £145, I don't know if the spring design would support grinder induced lows, which would save some cash... Wheels are pricey unless you're in a right place, right time situation, but a couple of options out there.. Some OZ Superturismos which would benefit from a spruce up and some tyres Or I'd probably go for some BBS Craters, even if this set does need one tyre replacing, can't go too wrong with BBS' So £1265 for the car, and the basic wheels and lows package

Its crazy now, there isn't a single working car at £500 or less on my eBay. You'd have thought with the incoming CAZ's in various cities the market would be flooded but doesn't seem to be so far.
