...... I praise the favvy on this here forum..... It sails through the MOT....... I decide to treat it to an oil + filter change at the weekend...... and it repays me by the alternator going up the swanee.... It's my own fault really, as the battery light's been coming on at about 3000 RPM for a while, but as the battery didn't go flat I ignored it.... tonight the light stayed on and a check with voltmeter showed a distinct lack of charge. As the Sceptre's out of MOT, looks like I've got the dubious pleasure of being chauffeured to work by the 'OH' for a couple of days.....

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Yeah, it sounds a bit steep, but I guess it's probably about the 'average' price for a recon alternator now - a few years ago I'd have been trawling round the srappies for one...... ;D
Overall the ol' Skud stiil works out pretty cheap to run though.....

I had my alternator rebuilt by a local specialist in Widnes, about 18 months ago. They had it for a day, and it cost £40! A new one from Halfords was over £200!
