I am putting my beloved 600 SEL up for sale. Owned it for 4.5 years since 2012. Used it for my sister's wedding (my wedding car was a Phase 2 S500 L). Done very little mileage since.
One of my all time dream cars. Reason for sale? I'm buying an identical one but with beige leather (always wanted that colour combo!).
MOT expired February 2016. That's when it was last used on the road, valeted at the local car wash and filled up with some fuel. Has generally been off the road and unused for the past few years. Started regularly, and taken around the block when possible. But not for the past few months, as I've been working up in Newcastle. Consequently the battery is now dead and will need charging.
Odometer replaced at some point and mileage is showing 54333, although this is faulty and true mileage is circa 150k miles (nothing for an M120 engine).
£2k spent with Autoclass Milton Keyes at the end of 2012 on a Full Service (Oil, Oil Filter, Air Filter, Fuel Filter, Power Steering Fluid and Filters, Pollen Filter, 12 x Spark Plugs), Gearbox Oil & Filter Service, Coolant, Viscous Fan and Coupling. Secondary Cats removed and Straight Through pipes fitted. Autoclass look after all my Mercedes, and are very knowledgeable, especially with the older models.
Engine and Gearbox are superb. Starts first turn of the key, and then idles in the correct manner.
Pulls well in every gear, and you can feel the turbine like power delivery. These V12s scream like a V10, whereas the V8 have more of a growl.
Back in 1991, even most supercars weren't producing over 400 BHP. It's a big old lump, but will upset a lot of modern machinery.
Built like a bank vault, I believe it is the last over-engineered Mercedes ever made. These feel even more special than the later Phase 2 models.
There is a leak on the Hydraulic suspension (leaves a small puddle of fluid on the NSR of the car). Suspension is sagging at the rear. New suspension pipes and fluid refresh should resolve. There is a knock from the OSR shock absorber.
New Infra Red Remote Key ordered from Mercedes Ascot in 2014 (cost over £200).
Bodywork is generally very clean, with no rust or rot. A few marks and blemishes, consistent with age and miles. Small dent towards the right of the Mercedes badge on the boot lid. Rear bumper has a few marks, and front bumper has a slight scuff on corner. Windows have delamination in places. Car has been sitting unused, so will need a good valet in and out. I will try and get it cleaned, but to be honest and with limited time, it's for sale as you see it.
Fully Loaded: Full Grey Leather Interior, Heated Front Seats, Heated Rear Seats, Electric Memory Front Seats, Electric Reclining Rear Seats, Double Glazed Windows, Electric Rear Blind, Soft Closing Doors, Soft Closing Boot, Self Levelling Rear Suspension, Cruise Control, Headlamp Wash Wipers, Electric Rear View Mirror, Electric Windows x 4, Electric Heated Door Mirrors, Power Folding Door Mirrors, Electrically Adjustable Steering Column, Electric Rear Head Rests, Electric Sunroof, Rear Foot Rests, Front and Rear Vanity Mirrors, Leather Stitched Sun Visors, Alloy Wheels, Power Steering, Walnut Burr Trim, Traction Control, Premium Speaker System, Remote Central Locking and Alarm, Steel Rim Spare Wheel, etc.
Original Becker Mexico 2000 stereo with Remote Control and user manuals.
Most things seem to work as they should. However, a few things do need attention: Windows have become a little stiff due to lack of use (common W140 trait), but will smoothen up once in regular use. Rear parking sensor aerials have stopped working. Off side rear door does not open and the window switch is inoperative.
Interior is in good order, but will need a good valet due to lying around. A little surface mould, but will all clear up with a bit of elbow grease. Rear parcel shelf has the worst of this mould.
Please note that the wheels shown in the pictures are NOT included in the sale. The car will come with a set of 17" W221 S Class alloys with Hankook Winter Tyres (worth £300+ on their own). I will consider leaving the original wheels on if I get very close to the asking price, as I paid over £650 for them and had them imported from Germany.
Any inspection welcome. Can't take you on a long drive, but happy for you to leave it running, take it down the road, etc. If you bring a set of trade plates, then you are welcome to take it for a drive.
Recommend recovery and full check over / MOT before driving any considerable distance.
I'm charging the battery up in the next few days and will try and give it a quick wash. Photos will be uploaded accordingly.
All in, an ultra-rare V12 W140 that needs a little minor TLC.
No timewasters or silly offers. I know what these are worth and the next cheapest one for sale is over £7k. Shouldn't need much for an MOT and to get up to that standard.. These will definitely become a cult classic (any V12 Mercedes is going up in value, especially these W140s).
Comes with: 1 x Remote Infra Red Key, V12 Leather Folder, W140 User Manuals, Becker Mexico Card and User Manuals, Receipt for Autoclass work and New Key, V5 Log Book
