I need to order some cloth but don't have any way to judge how thick all the various cotton weights are. Anyone done this?
Cant be too thick or they wont draw or hang properly but don't want them too thin either.
Cant really line them either but as long as I find the right weight cloth I doubt it will matter too much.
Thanks.

Swmbo, who knows about these things says you need to get "Curtain Weight" material. Don't buy Polycotton.
Or she said simply buy some curtains you like and cut them up.

Wont it be too heavy? The cutains run on either tiny tracks or they slide on net curtain type wires.
Does she know what gsm that would be? Most plain stuff ive found is about 260gsm but others are 350gsm.
I cant relate those numbers to reality.
If I could go and buy it in person id be able to judge but I cant find anywhere to buy fabric accept dunelm and they have nothing in plain black.

Swmbo says to ignore the gsm, material is sold in lightweight, medium weight,or heavy weight.( apparently) Heavy weight is for up holstery type applications, and is no good to you as curtain material. Light weight would need to be lined
So she says go for medium weight, she says your curtain tracks should be strong enough.
Or if all else fails, look on EBay to have some made up.

I made my curtains out of thick material for my vw t25,they run in aluminium track perfectly good.Don't buy thin material as the light will shine through it.or use thin material with a blackout backing.if you email some campervan curtain makers on interweb they will send you some samples.

Bit late. Ive bought some cloth. Woman on market said it would be fine but it looks thin.
If its too thin ill try lining them. At least ill get some idea even if it doesnt work.
Still need to master this sewing machine too!

I didnt bother running mine in rails, made them with thick material and also used insulating black out liner, and they fix on the van with press studs around the window. Complete black out, and not flying around the runners curse word me off while driving.

We made the curtains, came out ok I guess. Had to get them done in a hurry so we could go away. They are a little thin but work well enough. We made them to the same size as the home made ones that were in it and it turns out there a little small. Ill make some more when I have more time, I'm thinking crushed velvet

not wanting to put fixings into the tailgate on our bongo , we (my mum!) stitched magnets into the hem of the material...chink and its up.
