If you aske me this question years ago I would have said to go for the MGB. I enjoyed modding mine TBH and they're not a bad drive. Now, however, I reckon it's got to be the Moggy . Hmmm, you may have given me an idea for a future retro and I was quite set on a Mini as well!

I will admit that I've never 'got' the MGB and find them bland & characterless so it's a Moggie Thou hands down. If I was buying one I'd find it difficult to choose between a convertible or a traveler.

It'll come down to personal preference ultimately I've seen some cool Minors but for me, the design of the B is so much cooler and they're fun to drive Biased of course

I'd say the MG. I think it depends how you want to use it though.

Yep, if you settled on the saloon, the 2 door is better looking & has other advantages too.

I've had 3 GT's and 2 Moggies (convertible & 2 door saloon). Moggie with upgrades would be my choice. Nothing wrong with MGB GT's but just they did nothing for me even when I fitted a SD1 V8 into one.

carltonx your thread has arrived I'd be happy with either but with a Minor as you have four seats and can be reasonable practical, traveller and van even more so. I suppose it depends on how much you like Minis. Minors feel a bit like a larger, worse handling but more practical version and have a lot of bits which feel similar but MGs obviously have less in common. I have a soft spot for Midgets (snigger) so probably one of them rather than a B if I wanted a cabriolet.

If I was buying one I'd find it difficult to choose between a convertible or a traveler. Admitedly I do see your point and partially for that reason I wouldn't buy one again. But I can see why people got them . Snug yet comfortable driving position Well placed controls (steering wheel and gearlever along with the switchgear Evocative exhaust note Plenty of spares backup - Bar the Mini or Midget I don't know of many cars with a spares count like the 'B, maybe the Mustang. Friendly and fun handling Daily usability. When I went to a classic car show in the Escort and it was parked next to 3 MGBs, the Escort had far more attention throughout the day. To say I was surprised was an understatement. I thought the RST was only just retro! That said, I would happily buy a Moggie now, unless it was an MGB V8. There is something about the Moggy, an honesty about it. For the OP, I'd choose the Moggy in your position. But if you 'get' a Mini they are hard to beat. Indeed, even with their silly high prices now I do keep an eye out for one. I almost bought one over an MX-5. In many ways so much is right about a Mini. Midget is a great shout. I've owned two. The handling is almost telepathic, the engines willing, the ride good and generally they are a nice package. That said, I am not the biggest guy and even I find it a little small and intimidating and that comes from me owning a Pug 106 GTi (a driving position where the driver is the afterthought) and 2 Midgets. Are you open to suggestions? If you were to go leftfield and consider a Moggy I'd also consider a 2CV. While a Moggy is basic and the 2CV is on another level there is something about them. The ride of them is almost unrivalled compared to most other cars!

Unlike MGB's I 'get' Midgets but I much prefer a Spitfire.

I don't think I'm likely to own another mini feel like I've done that now and need to do something else.
Do prefer the 2 door moggy and i think I'm likely to go down that route! quite like the idea of converting the front to look like the lowlight.

If you buy an MGB the men in tweed will come for you.
If you get the Morris Everyone will tell you about the one their dad/granddad/weird uncle Jeff used to drive.

For me it would come down to the style of car I'd like to build. I'd have a BGT with Japanese influence like a shakotan 240Z, with the Minor I'd visit Russia and follow the lead of the Only Dropped guys and their low but mostly stock with nice wheels Lada's. I'd really like to have both.

Probably the best Morris Minor I've seen recently. I think it was built by one of the Beardmore brothers who have form when it come to these cars. That should give you a bit of inspiration, though I do like the idea of a Japanese inspired MG now.....

^The wheels on that should be horrid, but it works, if it was built by one of the beardmores it kinda shows that they know what they're doing. To me the difference between a minor and MGB is that you expect a go-faster spec MGB, its an MG after all. But you don't expect it with a moggy. The old favourite was the fiat twin cam route, but now its whould have to be the MX5 lump in a 2dr saloon, innocent bodywork, lows and bigger wider steels. Grey with red trim. A few years back i remember seeing a Mini traveller with wide wheels, and the wood was widened to suit, wouldnt mind seeing that done on a moggy. I was thinking of getting a beetle, but now I'm talking myself into a moggy...
