For sale is my 1975 MG Midget 1500. I’ve owned the car for four years, but sadly it’s time for her to go to a new home.
Mileage is showing 814 miles as of 13-9-2106, and it has been round the clock (as it had 97000 on it when i bought it).
MOT is due February next year; no advisories on the current MOT.
This was for sale at the Gathering, however due to being in a dip in the middle of a valley with no phone signal, this was probably not the best place to try and sell a car with a phone number listed....!
It was (prior to my ownership) a ‘rubber’ bumper car, however when I acquired he vehicle it was fitted with chrome bumpers. The rear two piece bumpers are still on the car, and it comes with the chrome front bumper (I preferred the look without it, however the new owner may choose to re-mount the bumper to the car).
The car is fitted with a one-piece fibreglass front end, which flips forward on a custom made bracket (produced by Peter May engineering specifically for this job).
The car was resprayed last year and comes with the remaining paint for any required future touch ups.
The car has recently had a brand new soft top roof fitted, along with a new set of carpets. It has a smaller, aftermarket steering wheel, however it also comes with the original included in the sale (along with a collection of bits i have acrued over the years; wheel cylinders, headlamp eyebrows etc...)..
The seats are from an MGF and are black leather & grey alcantara. There is a patch on the passenger seat squab due to previous wear on this area (it was the Drivers’ seat in the MGF; it is common to swap them over to allow use of the seat back adjustment wheel).
Also fitted is a modified MGB arm rest, with a 12v socket inside. This was fitted to allow greater comfort on long drives (I’m 6’ 3” with long arms, so it helps to have somewhere to rest your arm!).
It has been lowered to compensate for the removal of the rubber bumpers and to bring it down to the height more associated with the chrome bumper cars.
It has an aftermarket exhaust fitted, with an oval cherry bomb-type backbox. This was fitted as the previous backbox was far too loud for my liking, however this does provide a nice fruity exhaust note.
It's also fitted with Jensen Healey alloy wheels; these were chosen due to the fitment, and also as a change from the usual Minilites. These were sprayed at the same time as the respray (last July) and so set the car off nicely. The wheels are mounted with custom made Chrome wheel nuts; I had these specially made to allow fitment to the car.
The ignition has been changed to an electronic set up, so there’s no need to be setting points anymore.
The car has been welded (it is after all 41 years old) however it I is solid and comes with an MOT until February next year, with no advisories. The car is classed as ‘Historic’ entitling it to zero VED (no road tax to pay).
The car has limited service history, however I have tried to document everything done in my ownership. I also requested all previous history held by the DVLA, and as such have all previous MOT’s and the some history from them.
Also has the tonneau cover as per the photos.
If i get asking price I'll include the stereo and amp too.
Now the bad bits.
Obviously the car is 40 years old, and so there is a little rust here and there, although nothing serious. The paint on the bonnet has a slight star crack in it (due to the flexing of the bonnet over time) however this could easily be touched up and the paint is supplied for this. The drivers’ side window channel needs looking at also; when the window is wound down you need to push the glass down with it. However it winds up fine. It has only recently begun doing this, and hasn’t really bothered me hence why it is still present.
It pains me to sell it, but I fancy something different. If it sells - great. If not, I'll keep it and stick another 12 months MOT on it.
