Hi all
After a bit of advice if possible ...
I've tried to fit my new rear struts today and expected to be able to remove the cross pin bracket from the centre of the old strut and push it through the eyelet of the new strut.
I don't think it will go, does anyone know if it is it just a case of buying an off the shelf insert to slot through the eye or if the insert needs to be pressed into the bush in some way?
Thanks in advance Phil

I usually just run a drill through the bush to open it out a bit if it's tight, then push the new ones in with a vice.

I've seen the photo, it's like a focus or rover rear radius arm bush with the bar through the middle. It's not something your just gonna be able to 'swap over' I don't think. I'd Contact the suppliers and see if they have any ideas.

they're the wrong damper if its meant to be direct fit, diameters are very different

Ah. In that case I'd just make a couple of L brackets out of angle iron that bolt to the original mounting holes then use a normal bolt through the bush.

Just make sure you can get to all the bolts to get them in. You'll probably have to bolt the brackets to the shock then cut down the bolt thread as much as possible (whilst still engaging the nyloc) so you can get the bolts that hold it to the arm in. You can get half height nylocs have half head bolts if it gets tight.

i doubt those brackets will be strong enough.
what vehicle is it? surely easier to get the right damper?

They'll be fine to test the idea. Could do with a gusset in to brace them ideally. Not like a Acty has any weight on the back though.

I'm hoping the new strut is a bit narrower than the old to give a bit more space.
