Well, I think its ace. As much as I love clean cars there is something perversely cool about filthy paintwork.
When the Volvo was parked up for 18months it took somebody to draw a massive cock in the dirt on the roof before I washed it and even then only half heartedly.
It does garner more attention though, being grubby, I once got pulled at about 3am for the car being filthy, I was going abit quick too granted, but it was only the state of the car that got a mention.
Anyway.
Well done on a clean bill of health on the LC. You lucky bstard(child)

Keeping your windows filthy just for "the look" is just dumb. So is driving a car that rips off exhaust hangers in motorway services because it is so low just for "the look" Whilst I can see some arguement for driving a low car being a potential safety hazard, driving around with windows so filthy you can't see out of them if definitely one. What happens if it rains whilst he's out? Does he leave the windows all the way down and let the inside get wet? Does he wind them up just enough to stop water getting in, then peers through the letterbox opening left? I have no issue with the patina on the rest of the vehicle, in fact I love it. I just think the windows are a step too far...

I just think the windows are a step too far... He uses it like a "classic" - only goes out on sunny days when no risk of rain - he did say that last time he got caught in a shower he parked up until it stopped as driving at 50 mph in a shower is like jet washing the car - a litle rain on the paint doesn't cause any issue once dry He's also a bit paranoid (in a nice way) of leaving it anywhere and coming back to find some wag has finger painted "clean me" - "this truck is dirtier than yer mam" - "I wish my misses was as dirty as this truck"

I like it just because it's different and it took time to get it like that.
Lotus Carlton? Daily? Are you insane! That's like your wife sending out to buy a sensible daily estate car and returning home with an imported Forester Turbo!
I did not know you had one so whilst I was looking at the 1st photo, I'm like..."You're taking pictures of a dirty truck? Can't you see there is a Lotus Carlton parked up behind"!!!!!!! Lol

That's like your wife sending out to buy a sensible daily estate car and returning home with an imported Forester Turbo! It's a pussy cat to drive, progressive power with no sudden rush of boost - unless it's wet then it's a bloody handful - Hopefully it won't be a daily for long..... I'd let the MOT lapse in the run up to RRG16 and then ran out of time to do it...... I did not know you had one so whilst I was looking at the 1st photo, I'm like..."You're taking pictures of a dirty truck? Can't you see there is a Lotus Carlton parked up behind"!!!!!!! Lol It's lost that impact on me - I see it every day and if I take it to VBOA it's one of dozens Now if I see a Manta on the road now then I think wow!!!!

I said it was dumb... well technically you said it was dumb... same as putting 200+bhp in a small 70's coupe with all of the safety features of a small 70's coupe (uprated brakes of course). It is kinda dumb. Seems this guy is relatively sensible and I like the sound of the effort he is going to to preserve this insanity. No hate for the vehicle at all, as I love the "nowhere near Concours" ethos. I do however think that mucky windows and lights is going a bit far.

I try to only wash the lights and windows on mine, it's a little easier to get in a state though! The road is a right mess when it rains lol

I think if I knew this guy I'd be tempted to give the car a 5-star valet at 3am on April Fool's Day.

Cant speak for anyone else, but its not negativity on my part, I just don't get it.
I fully understand dirty cars, ive washed my berlingo twice in 4 years but thats just as I don't see the point in washing it.
If I owned that mazda, maybe I wouldnt wash it either but I wouldnt be going out of my way to stop it getting accidently cleaner.
As an exercise in seeing what happens if you never wash it, fine, but for me it would be more of a 'sometimes you loose dirt, sometimes you gain it'.
I guess its just the flip side.

Its cool as can be I've wanted a lowered mazda pick up for probably 20+ years, saw one at santa pod all that time ago probably a b2000 lowered with the roof in the back so just the front screen looked amazing. how else are you going to end up with a natural patina...surely the only way is to not clean it got to be better than rust in a can paint. definitely not rat look more barn find and wins with me but my opinion isn't worth the paper its written on

I agree, I really like it, especially as I used to own one so I have a soft spot for them. But I do think the windows should be cleaned. It's not often we see negativity on here, but I think it's more with people being concerned with how safe it is to drive with the windows like that. If they are always down when it's moving then fair enough.

You absolute legend - that is one of my all-time dream cars!! Concentrate on the truck - the LC is just a distraction and I do hope it's not a daily for too long - bleeding thing drinks more than Oliver Reed - I've got half a tank left* and it's only be on the road for two days...... * it's a bit too much fun to not give it a squirt when the opportunity arises so I only have myself to blame............
