Solar install is a good idea. I'm not sure how well use the van yet. If we stay stationary often ill look into it.
Campsites hopefully wont be too much of an issue as I want to use them as little as possible.

When I put a stereo in my E class estate, (almost as big as a van!) I went for a Pioneer Bluetooth head unit running the stock (focal IIRC) speakers straight off the head unit (rated 50W x 4) and a single 10" (now 12") Infinity sub off an 800W monoblock amp.
By matching the headunit crossover cut offs from the front/rear outputs to that of the sub channel it is incredibly loud and very good clarity with barely any distortion other than at painfully high volumes as all the bass/low-mid bass is handled by the sub and the other 4 speakers can concentrate on mid range.
Very cheap and effective!

I paid a visit to my local audio shop today. Listened to lots of 6.5" component sets, (all hertz and audison) amped and unamped, speakers from £90-£700! Was quite an eye opener. They ALL sound bad LOL. they all sound bad in slightly different ways but none the less, none sounded good. I know they will sound different in a moving, rattling van but I think its made me realise that I may as well just pick a price point I don't mind throwing away (£100 tops) and just pick whatever I feel is bad sounding in a way I can live with easiest. All a bit dissapointing really. I might go back down in the van and see what he thinks when he see's my placement issues but its probably a bit pointless. Whats the point in spending £500 if I still think it sounds bad. Whats the point in doing all I can to make it sound as good as possible and spending £2500 if I think the end result is just sort of ok ish. I'm also reasonably convinced that without alot of money, measurements, custom active crossovers and processing I'm not going to be able to live with a 'sub'.  |
