I've done many hours of searching and found nothing on a pair of hubs i have!! they measure 12 inch in diameter and are cast aluminium! there massive! There isn't any numbers anywhere, but i thought they must be off something old and sporty being so big in size using drums and being made from ali imageupload

Have you checked the girling part number on the wheel cylinder ? i cant quite make it all out when i enlarge the picture. On old parts i often use a magnifying glass and an LED light to highlight raised or stamped letters/numbers that appear hidden, last week i ID'd a WWII helmet for a mate who couldn't find the size, i media blasted it and spent 2 hours with the above just to find the size and factory of origin, i even take close up pics with a didgital camera (in macro) (the camera setting NOT the trade warehouse) then enlarge and play with the colours and contrast to ID parts All i can make out is girling and "03310" i think the first number is a 5 but not sure and cant make out the last one (could be a letter not a number).

you sure like these guessing games you do :') haha the part number on the girling unit only brought up 1 certain alfa, but i looked into the car and found it never used anything of a sort . the girling is 303310w and google brings back barely a scratch of information. funny you say helmet! last year i had a helmet come to me and i thought someone spray painted it in luminous paint, but it turned out to be a very very old french firemans war helmet

Assuming it's a rear hub then there must be a limited number to vehicles with such independent suspension. 6 stud wheels are also going to reduce the number. What about measuring the PCD and searching for vehicles with same ?

highvoltage don't say that... you will get my hopes up making me think i'm going to end up with lots of holiday money and a BRAKE from work <see what i did there :') haha. But i have thought of cars such as Bugatti/aston/jaguar but i just can't find pictures... i have emailed a vintage jaguar specialist, but no reply just yet. Like you say composimmonite i should be able to narrow it down with them facts, but i found it to be a hard game so far. Also have some parts with the hubs "no numbers" and they look like the bolt some how to the hubs, allowing a wheel to slide on and to be help on with a wing nut. I'll try get a picture of the parts later to show you how i mean, but my guess it is not a stud pattern that holds the wheel, but a winged nut.

I thought they were for wire wheels with a knock off spinner, they look a bit Riley ish off something like a pre war Kestrel but they didn't have alloy backplates as far as I know.I think some Morris 8's did but they don't seem to match up.

The upright part looks like fabricated steel, could it be off a racing car which was old enough to have drum brakes?
