For sale is my wonderful Mercedes 190: presented in 'Malachite Metallic' with a lovely beige leather interior. This came to me from a private collection of Mercedes in Norfolk, and it took me a long time to find such a well specified car. Examples with both factory fitted air conditioning and leather seats are rare beasts. When complemented with electric windows, electric sunroof, central locking, ABS, airbag, pirelli tyres and iconic ‘flying saucer’ wheel trims, I’m sure you can understand why I fell in love with it.
The car has been scrupulously maintained over the years (at great expense) and comes with a full and comprehensive service history. This includes, but is not limited to:
- A fully stamped Mercedes Maintenence Booklet.
- Every MOT since its first in 1996.
- A good deal of receipts for works carried out from new.
Since purchasing the car in August 2015 it has had
- Full service including ALL new: Fluids (x2), Filters (x3) Leads (x5) Plugs (x4).
- Rocker cover gasket replaced.
- New timing chain and auxiliary belt.
- New alternator.
- New water pump.
- New Over Voltage Protection relay.
- New oil cap and radiator cap (precautionary)
- Engine carbon clean (precautionary)
Despite what sellers will tell you, these cars aren't bulletproof and do have an Achilles heel. With the 190e, both the 1.8 and 2.0 cars have an appetite for head gaskets at 150,000 miles. So me being me, I commissioned the highly regarded Mercedes specialist H A Lock to undertake a complete top end rebuild of the car at great expense (£950 - invoice available)
To drive, the Mercedes 190e is simply fantastic. By modern standards it’s a narrow car, so is perfectly suited to city driving. On the open road, the manual 5 speed gearbox has longer legs than the 4 speed automatic, and is running at just 2,700 rpm at 70mph. The ‘magic carpet ride’ of the W201 is famous in both legend and reality, and it’s simply a joy to be behind the wheel. Unlike nearly every other example for sale, this car has absolutely no rust present on the bodywork.
I'm looking to get into a 6 cylinder W201/W202/W124 or something 80s/90s and J.
Included with the sale is a new under bonnet sound insulation pad, clear indicator lenses and more contemporary wheel trims.
In essence, this is a handsome and genuine example of Mercedes engineering at its finest. I am of the firm opinion that this car, at this price, will be hard to beat.
