For sale on behalf of a very good friend; I don't know who is more upset by this, him or me! He took me to / from my wedding in this car ~10yrs ago, and I've had first refusal on it forever, but now is not the time.. Anyway, copy/pasted details:
Here for sale is my 1972 Cortina GXL.
It has 9 months MOT on it, and is tax exempt. I have owned this car for the last ten years, and am now selling it very reluctantly, to make way for a new project.
The car has had much work done on it, mostly by myself, over many hours.
The car is in overall very good condition, was magazine featured in 2011, and has been a fun and reliable toy for me at the weekends. I will be sad to see her go.
EXTERIOR
Resprayed in Ford panther black metallic around ten years ago, the paintwork is in pretty good condition, but is starting to show its age, with some age related marks, the worst of these being a little bubbling, and a small hole on the rear wheelarches. I will include two rear arch repair panels in the sale.
The vinyl roof was fitted at the same time as the respray, and is in very good condition.
The bonnet has been fitted with a Mustang style bonnet scoop, fully blended in and sprayed Matt black to a very high standard.
Rear window louvre fitted for that 70s look, along with a front chin spoiler, and the high level brake lights in the rear window.
Unknown make staggered 15 inch alloy wheels, with BFG tyres on the rear, and Toyo Proxes on the front. Both pairs of tyres have only covered 1000 miles max.
INTERIOR
Original sloping dash, with all the gxl gauges in place.
Skull gear knob.
Recaro Classic RS bucket seats, in black corduroy and vinyl, with the rear seat re-trimmed to match in 2011.
Red carpet fitted.
Door cards are original and all in good condition, bar the drivers door which is damaged down the back edge.
Switch panel on centre console for ECU and fuel pump, along with a kill switch.
CB radio.
MECHANICALS
2 litre pinto engine, built to stage 1 spec by Specialist Engines in Essex, and installed around 2010.
Twin Weber 40 DCOE carbs.
Aldon Amethyst ignition ECU fitted to control timing, as there is no reliable vacuum signal obtainable from the Webers
Facet electric fuel pump, along with a Filter King pressure regulator installed in boot.
Oil catch tank fitted, as the recirculation valve was deleted with the fitting of the DCOEs.
Electric fan fitted on thermostatic switch, along with I switch on dashboard for manual operation.
Ashley exhaust manifold, and sports exhaust ms system, with 2 cherry bomb silencers. Gives the car a nice sound on idle, and while accelerating, but not loud enough to be annoying whilst cruising.
Gearbox is a heavy duty type 9 5 speed, out of a p100 pickup, which provides good acceleration, and sensible motorway cruising.
Quaife quick shift gearstick fitted.
Front brakes are new 2.8 Capri callipers, with vented and grooved discs.
Master cylinder has been replaced recently with a landrover item, with a slightly bigger bore for improved braking.
Rear axle is a heavy duty item off of a 2.3 Cortina. As well as the extra strength of the axle, the gear ratio is excellent in conjunction with the gearbox, and this provides the back end with bigger 9 inch drum brakes.
Suspension has been lowered one inch at the front, with Burton Power uprated springs all round, and Gaz adjustable shocks. The car has been fully polybushed, and has up rated anti-roll bars front and rear.
The car has had some welding in the usual places over the years, and has a brand new steering rack fitted for this years MOT.
I have probably forgotten some stuff, but please feel free to contact me (Steve / braeburn ) on O77six9 34four371 if you have any questions, or want to come have a look.
FFS don't mess him around. I hope it goes to a good home.
