Just read the whole thread Jonsey, well done. Aldi ( and Lidl ) tools have a 3 year warranty and the shops are usually quite easy to deal with. Thanks for the kind words.I don't have the receipt Mr Pile. It's older than 4 years old and has been kept running with badges, luck and bits of my brothers identical one where he burnt the motor out. The motor still going on mine and I do have the 9mm finger it came with somewhere but I have already treated myself to a new one. I won't throw it quite yet.

I ordered a new power file and was excited to open it this morning. It's supposed to be for 9 & 13mm belts, but the @finger" for the 13mm belt was not in the case. So email the seller and remembered that there was also a 9mm finger with my Aldi power file when I bought that. On opening the case was a 9mm finger and another 13mm finger. It looks odd and I don't know exactly what use it's designed for, but it works. So I ground down the welds on the door frame and sprayed it to stop rust until it's painted The reason these doors rot is that there are only 2 4mm drain holes at either end, so I drilled 2 holes either end of the frame and cut out the bits in between them to see are a slot I also straightened the front bumper I bought a few weeks ago and had to replace one of the mounting studs as the thread was ruined. Hopefully the van will be going for paint in the next few weeks. I showing Mrs Jonsey the colour I'm now planning on painting it (Fiat dark grey) and she's not a fan of my idea. I've either got to convince her it's cool or choose another colour. Time will tell. And I'm currently sitting in A&E waiting for another bit of metal to be dug out of my eyeball😩

Incomplete power files, marital strife over colours and a trip to hospital?
Good job you have a cool van to compensate! 😊

Really like your idea of the Fiat dark grey (is that the dark grey that they use on current models the Fiat 500) that with a slightly off white (BLMC Snowberry White would work) for the wheels & bumpers and it would very much look the business!

Yes Grumpy, that's the grey. I was going to do the bumpers the same colour the roof is now. It's off the RAL sheet but I can't remember the name or code. Even though it's called a grey it actually looks a creamy grey- taupe? I'm undecided on the wheel colour yet. I'm thinking the same grey as the body as I think the chrome hub caps will break it up a bit. I'm still in negotiations with Mrs Jonsey on this subject.

Rear lights. I've never liked the rear lights on the van. They look like they've been stolen off a 1970's trailer lighting board. I decided when I first bought the van they were going to go so I bought a set of Morris's Minor Traveller rear lights and reflectors. These are virtually identical to the lights the earlyEstafettes were fitted with. But first I had to weld up the big holes left by the trailer lights. I ground the welds down whilst wearing these googles today. No gaps for sparks to enter so Mrs Jonsey doesn't moan at me Then out with the hole saw Then in with the lights There all wired up and working. I would like to change the front lights for something less modern but so far I've seen a blank on something suitable and easily available. The panel curves which makes things a little difficult

I wonder how close a match the New Beetle bumper mounted indicator/sidelight unit is? They're probably pretty easy to get hold of.

Have to say brilliant choice on the back lights, they look spot on and period. (Excellent thread by the way, been following and enjoying it since the start.)

I wouldn't want to see a gap down the sides as these are designed to sit on a flat surface. Thanks for the input

I wonder how close a match the New Beetle bumper mounted indicator/sidelight unit is? They're probably pretty easy to get hold of. My issue with this is that I don't have much room inside to play with. The front of the van consists of the front panel you can see, then there is a small gap, then a piece of mill board, and then the pedals. I don't think there would be the room for a fully frenched light. Thanks for the input though

What are the chances of finding an indicator unit from an earlier model? Hens teeth I would imagine! Rear lights are looking good - much more period.

Strikey's idea would work if you added a flute type housing fabbed up out of a bit a tube but kept them to the outer faces of the front panel - lots of commercials ran with this in period and fitted a generic Lucas / Rubberlite type lamp to the housing - so you could use the same lamp has on the rear

I think I would fab a wrap around cheese wedge from steel, same shape as current lens, so you then get your flat surface to mount a forward facing light

I can buy new glass lensss for them from Franzoze in Germany at 70 odd euros each plus 15 Euros shipping. To Rich for me and I still wouldn't have the backs for them. They would be ideal though.

Thanks everyone for the comments the popular "make a mount" idea is something I'll look into. The beauty of the early indicator is that it can be seen easily from the side too.. I need to think
