With much regret I am selling my lovely 1987 Austin Mini Advantage.
I have driven this car pretty much every day for the last 6 years, so now feel it’s time to move on to something a bit larger.
Mot is until 5/7/2017 and has no advisories.
On the clock is an honest 85838 miles, (when I purchased it there were 39,000)
In January 2015 it came off the road for a complete nut and bolt restore courtesy of my husband as the rust was starting to show. This included new front valance, wings, bonnet, A panels, inner and outer sills, new rear sub-frame, radiator, removal of opening rear windows and replacing with sealed glass, new rear windscreen with working heated bars. All rubbers, bushes and bearings replaced a long with an engine transplant to 1275cc (still registered as 998c). It had a stage 1 kit fitted at the same time with maniflow manifold so no more leaky exhaust joint along with an electric dizzy so no points and condenser to worry about. The whole brake system was overhauled with new pipes, flexi’s, discs and pads. New tyres, new ‘Advantage’ decals, new battery and a total re-spray. This was well over £3500 worth of parts. It went off the road on New Years day 2015, and was given back to me in June 2015, and it’s been back on the road ever since.
I had the engine tuned and rolling roaded in September 15, it has 77bhp.
I have some old MOT’s and receipts, also have the original hand book, consumer guide and 1987 dealer book.
The car has been regularly serviced by ourselves yearly, and has been generally maintained to a high standard.
As with all old classics there are a few issues, there is a tiny bit of rust on the seam seal strips on the front, the grill is a bit rusty (could do with a sandblast and re-paint) and I am missing the front passenger side silver grill edge – see photos. I also have absolutely no idea where that has gone!
The engine is not running at its best at the moment, I haven’t had time to get this investigated but it appears to have a misfire or needs a tune, as it’s not running as it should.
It currently has 2 black Mazda MX5 seats which were put in place of the originals during the overhaul, mainly as they’re safer and comfier, but I have the originals in the shed which will go with the car. The only damage is a little bit of the green trim on the drivers seat pad has broken off, otherwise there are no rips or tears. Other than seats it retains all of its original interior.
It has the original steel wheels and hub caps which are in good condition, tracking and tyres are regularly checked (I used to work in a tyre shop! Very handy!) There are 4 Marshal tyres on it, put on in June 2015, and the spare in the boot is in good condition.
There are no problems with suspension, CV joints etc, as these were all replaced during the overhaul, and the underneath of this car is ABSOLUTELY SPOTLESS. Not a single bit of rust (not easy to hide either when it’s bright white!)
Also the sunroof does NOT leak. Can be a common problem with these but we managed to get the seal to compress properly again.
The only reason I am selling is because I need something bigger as my daily, I’ve had 6 and a half years of fun and games with this car and I will really miss it. We’ve been to London to Brighton and local car shows more times than I can count and had more than a few adventures in it along the way. I will be so sad to see it go, it has been part of me for so long but I know there is someone out there who can give this lovely car a new home.
First to see will buy my lovely little Mini… and will break my heart at the same time!
