I've only ever used a non-painted or brand new exhaust manifold before but the one I have for the Midas Project has been painted (badly) with what looks like kids' poster paint. Rather than set fire to the underbonnet area of my kit once it's finished (some time yet...), my plan is firstly to strip off all the old paint.
I need to do this cheaply as my budget is small or non-existent (please don't suggest I wrap the exhaust or get it ceramic coated - neither are options) and my initial thought would be the type of paint used on barbecues and stoves as they tend to withstand upwards of 700 degrees. I am unsure on the type of manifold paint available at motorfactors - the last lot I saw used (granted it was 20 years ago) burned off in a few weeks. I would just prefer not to look at a bunch of rusty pipes under the bonnet.
Is there a simple solution to this??
