Hey guys thought it put up a little thread about my truck, you may recognise it. I actually bought it a year ago and have only not to long ago taken delivery, finally... Here's a couple of pics as I got it. It's been a hectic couple of weeks as I've been desperate to get it on the road before the end of "summer" Had to register it on the road from scratch after previous failed attempts, personally I found the dvla very straight forward and helpful, start to finish the process took 5 weeks and included an inspection from by sgs on behalf of the dvla. And finally a number plate!!! In that 5 weeks I've done my best to get it slightly more usable and a bit of tidying up. I started by completely rewiring it from scratch, removed all the twisted and taped joints in favour of soldered and heat shrink (my preferred method). Fitted new indicators and switch gear

Also on the list was the broken headlamp lense, although I would have loved to keep them as I felt they had a lot of character, I struggled to find a replacement and upon removing the other headlight found both units were cracked and once disturbed swiftly fell into two pieces So decided for the time being to fit new unit, I think 9" lamps would suit it better so will be scouring auto jumbles where ever possible, Finally decided to take it for a test drive around the block, which was interesting to say the least, and was close to pushing her home, turns out the fuel filter had emptied it's self, so I decided I wasn't taking any chances, and stripped the lot, although I'm sure it was nothing major, the carb was also looking a bit worse for wear and I need this thing to be reliable and serviceable, fortunately as it's a pinto parts are easily available and a new 32/36 webber was sourced from the bay of e. Although fitting wasn't 100% straight forward as I soon realised I had to change the inlet manifold too, but it's simple for fit none the less and I now have a functioning manual choke, whilst fitting it the fabricator at work knocked up a comedy air scoop to stop the rain getting in whilst I've got no bonnet fitted, currantly very unsure about this mod...and awaiting delivery of a pancake filter

Also knocked up an ally battery box and fitted an isolator switch, and secured the board on the bed from shuffling about when driving I had a hard board inspection panel in the drivers footwell, whilst raiding the metal bit at work for off cuts found an off cut of 6mm macralon so thought it would be interning, on the plus side I can now see the brake pedal, rods and linkages moving whist driving also which is surprisingly reassuring

Please bare in mind most of this work was done prior to the sgs Vehicle inspection, and as I'd done some research and read some horror stories, I was Tring to make the truck as presentable and "roadworthy" as possible, although in truth it turned out the inspection was to check the truck "existed" and basically involved a few questions and a selection on required photos to be taken...If anyone wants any details feel free to pm me and I'll do my best to answer based on my experience but it was all very simple and positive. Next up was to tidy/fit/secure the interior, recovered the door cards, fitted new handles and some temporary window winders until I found some nice old ones Abdul fitted the obligatory gear knob but I've kept the old one as I quite prefer the period charm of original Tidied up the rusty bit above the windscreen, I like the ruff aged look and will leave the rest as is

Finally fitted a temporary tape number plate, as soon as I called the dvla and found I'd been issued with a plate it had to be driven And a few pics of it how it currantly sits, I had painted all the mismatched panels black then rubbed the back through to try and make the vehicle look a bit more original/complete, so it's still very tatty, kinda maybe feeling I've covered up a bit to much of the rust bit I can always rub back the non original panels, and I'm leaving the cabs patina well alone Blacked the front grill and rad surround Currantly no front plate fitted But today the 12x6 plates arrived so they will be on soon, that's pretty much it for now and my past 6 weeks summed up in 4 or 5 posts... Hopefully I'm aiming for more of a tradition kinda look, I love the cars that get to pendine even year and don't really want anything too radical, just need to get some miles under my belt

Nice to see what's happening with it. At that age I think you would be ok with a hand lettered/ painted number plate rather than the pressed alloy one.

So a few little jobs today, fit the 12x6 front and rear plates It's looks more tucked in the pic than it actually is, very visible from the back Front not much better but will be moved when I eventually get round to channelling the body over the rails Having had the car on the ramp and sorting a few clearance issues the most obvious problem from a quick walk round were the front tyres which are fairly perished New tyres ordered from North hants tyres, arrived after a few days, gave the wheels a quick wire brush and dropped them off at the tyre shop as I also wanted them balanced, ended up being a double edged sword as it turns out they won't balance up as one isn't true, but at least I now know what the likely vibration at 33mph is...and don't need to look much further.
