Car is sold, cheers guys.
Evening guys, have lingered much without an account on RR for some years as I enjoy the variety of cars and witty posts. But where better to offer my bargain shed for sale? An ad had to be posted...
Short story: Shed grade condition, MOT til 8th December 16, runs well enough, located Alresford, Hampshire Contact George on 07807175522
These pics are slightly old. It's now on 162k and is dirty as sin.
Long story is this car was bought late last year as a temporary run about while I stripped and re-assembled my then daily, which is now dead and parted out - this then became the main car. Then it was replaced again, tried to sell it for about £280, failed so kept it and have been using it as a rolling shed to transport rubbish to the tip. Grass cuttings, bricks, manky oily engines, general paraphernalia acquired by a man with two sheds over a number of years who now had a dump mobile. I was also curious how well the VP44 would take home-brew fuel, and over the last year I've probably only put about 300 quid of diesel in over 8-9k miles and it still runs great.
Story out the way, now the bad bits (which there are many, as it is a £100 car)
Bodywork sucks, touched up, scuffed, generally tatty.
Interior is grotty, but dry and not smelly
Handbrake is more a suggestion than stopping force
Tyres are all perfectly legal and over 2.5mm but are all second hand dealership grade rubber
ABS comes on for no reason at slow speed braking, but light does not illuminate and system operates fine otherwise
N/S front control arm rattles to a degree your mum would say is a "lethal" amount, have a replacement bush but too lazy to fix it. Fine on motorway
Drive belt squeals at full lock when it's damp out.
CEL light is stuck on, suspect MAF but I haven't got a tech II, and the car is a shed so who cares. Done 3k miles with it on no trouble
Exhaust has a 12mm hole in it. This is from me drilling said 12mm hole into the car while ticking "clogged cat" off of the CEL troubleshooting check list. Best to keep the windows up when in traffic, unless you like fumes.
Earth to starter is corroded / not amazing
Battery is old but okay
Aircon died just recently
The car is a shed.
Pros:
Engine is solid, runs a treat
Oil service, fuel filter and some general TLC and engine cleaning @ 156k
Some service history and history in general
Seats surprisingly comfy
Impossible to get less than 43 MPG (I've tried)
Has brakes, they work.
Factory fit towbar, excellent for small trailers and reversing into other cars to save your bumper.
All electronics work, bar the air-con. This is a plus of course as it will save you precious fuel.
MOT to December 2016
Does not use any fluids
Clutch and gearbox fine, no noises or misbehaving.
Clattering N/S control arm scares pedestrians if you hit a decent pothole, resulting in a cavalcade of amusement for you as fear grips them.
Injection pump behaves 100%, and is the early one that is not "mated" to the ECU so could be had for parts.
Impossible to get a speeding ticket / points on flat or slightly uphill motorways
More seriously this car COULD be restored to a very reasonable daily driver for £200-400 and 3 hours hard graft
