I thought they were bus (splitty) but now not so sure as 15" The 4x cutouts are smaller than a bus' wheel as well. Not from a 1966 bug and earlier ones don't seem to have the cutouts so now I'm stumped! There's no markings near the stud holes which there usually are, unless these have been covered over by many layers of paint. Any thoughts please?

Early bus (pre '62) had 15"s so most likely that.

From my time at VW Heritage I know a few experts on this sort of thing, I'll throw it out to them...

Apparently date stamp will be on the back of them, not the front

Would assume near bolt holes, general consensus is probably early split (there may have been differ pressings) or potentially early (lowlight) ghia.
You don't happen to know widths do you?

Thanks for the info James. Not sure how I can measure it accurately unless I just go for the width of the actual tread part?
Early lowlight KG would be nice!

Width measurement would be the gap between inside of the rim on either side, though understandably tricky to do with tyres on. From the folks I've spoke to, I'd say either early split, or early ghia. Sorry I can't give you a definitive, but it appears there was a bit of inconsistentcy in the manufacturing back in the day. Several people mentioned crows feet wheels too, so might be worth looking down that avenue as well?

Thanks James. The crows feet wheels are mentioned on the 1st page of the samba link, but this wheel just doesn't look like them as the 4x cut-outs are much more subtle than the samba versions.
I might go for a bit of paint-stripper on the front (round the thread holes) and the rear in the same place to try and find some more info.
Cheers mate.

Well as an update the guys at thesamba have said it's deffo not a VW wheel but a couple of other alternatives have been suggested:
1. An Opal 2. A Tempo Matador (would be cool if it were one of these!)
