Reluctantly up for sale is my Mk2 Volkswagen Golf 1.8 GL Auto. 122500 miles and mot till next April.
This car has been in my family since 1994 and has been by far the most reliable car I have owned. Always started and always got me to where I am going. The only reason I am selling is to fund the purchase of a van for a new business.
I will be as honest as I possibly can with my description and will probably make it sound worse than it is.
The car is GL spec and comes with all the original early type 19 features, 7 slat grill, quarter light doors, chrome strip bumpers etc.
I inherited the car in 2013 after it had been off the road for a few years and did the following work;
New wings
New lower valance
Head completely stripped down and rebuilt with new valves, seals etc. (receipts from engine specialist available)
Head gasket, all new belts, water pump
Autobox fluid drained, filter changed and refilled with correct vw fluid.
Jetex exhaust and new gti downpipe
New webber carb and manual choke conversion
Bilstein shocks and apex -30 lowering springs
New subframe, wishbones and all bushes replaced.
New pagid brakes all round
Upgraded heater matrix and engine bay coolant pipes.
Waxoyled and undersealed underneath
Any rust cut out and welded fresh metal in
New battery
Diy resprayed teardrop alloys and new tyres.
And loads I have since forgotten
I have been using the car every summer for the last 3 years and it has been kept in a dry garage every winter. I service it with genuine VW oil every year before I get it out.
The car drives straight without any odd noises or bangs. Engine starts well on the choke and pulls strongly. Autobox changes as it should.
Brakes are good and pedal firm.
Bodywork is solid but in its 29 years the car has picked up its fair share of dints and bad touch ups.
There is a very slight oil leak coming from the oil filter housing, it never needs filling between services but leaves a drip on my garage floor if left for a couple of weeks.
Finally this isn't a show car and is capable of being used everyday as a retro daily or would make a good rolling restoration to bring back up to perfect condition. The only thing that really lets it down is the bodywork so viewing is recommended.
Thanks for reading this far, message me on here for any further info.
I am not a mechanic or a trader and everything I have written is just my opinion.
