Hey gang, I'm selling my campervan as 1) I'm no longer using it and 2) I am looking to move abroad so i need to offload some stuff.
Its a 1992 (J-reg) Autosleeper Rambler GL, sleeps 2 adults & 2 kids and has a 1.9 Fiat Turbodiesel engine & 5-speed box. Its ready to go with 12 months MOT and comes complete with Kampa detachable awning, petrol generator, water containers, levelling ramps and pretty much everything you need to go on holiday including knives, forks, pots, pans and fairy lights!
The interior is very nice and it has a water heater, shower, gas fire, cooker and 12/240v/gas-powered fridge all integrated into the van. The autosleeper conversion is remarkably good quality, far better than the Fiat van it has been installed into IMO. Its all solid wood and custom mouldings that fit into the contours of the van and is in very good condition despite its 24 years.
I lived in this van for 2 months while doing a tour of Spain (mid-life crisis) last year and it was totally faultless for almost 5000 miles, drank about 1 litre of oil over the whole trip and did not need a spanner put on it once. Admittedly I fitted a new starter motor before setting off. I bought it specifically for doing that trip so I've had it for about a year.
The good points are:
12 months MOT
Absolutley cracking engine with new cambelt and no oil leaks. 118k miles. Has been mega reliable for me.
Optional twin battery set-up
Allegedly rebuilt gearbox (the PO told me he'd had it done, couldnt provide a bill but the box does look recent and the mountings look new and it works well and is quiet)
JK Towers rose-jointed gear linkage
Brand new curtains all made by my GF who is red hot on the sewing machine, they are made from some snazzy fabric from John Lewis and incorporate proper black out liners (fabric cost £175 alone)
My GF decorated the inside with some fairly lights and home-made bunting which make it much more homely, they will stay in!!
All appliances work well.
Does 28mpg on motorways and 33mpg pottering round the back roads.
Bad points:
front wheelarches are a bit bubbly! I don't think they are horribly rotten but I have not got the time to get involved with them. 2 cans of custom-mix paint are included if you fancy trying to tidy them up!!!
No power steering
Front end has been painted in the past, adhesion is not the best hence theres a couple of bits flaked off (you can see them above the front grille)
Thats about it really. I know theres a lot of these around that are horrible old bodged up crates but I think this one is pretty genuine, looking through the MOT history its had plenty of welding but I haven't found any awful bodges and I have inspected the underneath quite carefully. I did find a couple of crispy bits and old substandard patches which i removed, trimmed up and seam-welded new steel in and for my efforts it went through the MOT this year needing only a tiny patch on one sill that I had missed. I also did a CV boot and adjusted the rear brakes for the test.
It also had a massive dent in the NSR corner when I got it, this has been fixed by chopping it out and welding in a new section (a proper job not a ton of wob). I had it professionally painted and it looks great. I would say the van is genuinely in a visibly better overall condition than it was when I got it.
Anyway thats it, I'm looking for £4250 ovno, I have a few more photos available if you want. PM me on here or call O78OO 9O2396 if you are interested. Cheers!
