I could do with a answer quick as i need to get some insurance on a new car tonight . I got a speeding ticket in 2012 and 3 points , i gather these have lapsed . However i got a ticket last year and had to pay £100 but as far as i can remember all i had to do was log on and pay the fine , no points were awarded and they did not ask for my paper driving license like before to do them .
Does that mean i do not have any points strictly speaking ? Has anyone else had a fine and not got points ? I think i may have been 1mph over the limit they have or something ?

Since we abandoned the paper part of the license, you don't need to send the license anywhere to receive points. You can check your license stats by entering your details here - www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence

If you are not given points, you have no points. If you had points, but they have expired, you have no points.
Once any endorsement has expired, then your license is 'clean'.

Liverpool and Victoria say they take notice of anything in the last 5 years - anything to squeeze a bit more cash from you . My £430 quote ended up being about £560 !! Thats because I'm not married or own a home ! I initially put in my neighbours house number as mine didnt come up , then when they corrected it for me it went up some more !!!
All this and have never had a claim or any accident in 17 years of driving .
And i suppose my old insurer Adrian Flux [ yuk ] will sting me £120 for cancelling my policy [ a policy they have tried to put up every single year ]

My lad has just got £100 fine for 63 in a 50 limit. He paid the fine online and 2 months later got a warning letter stating that if he doesn't send his plastic licence off to be endorsed within 7 days then he would be taken to court Obviously sent items off and then received it back with receipt of payment and confirmation of endorsement Offer of payment was specific in the licence being sent after payment made

If it can be fixed with a hammer, then it must be an electrical fault

I never had to send it off . I was bloody curse word off that the fine had gone up from £60 to £100 as well in 3 years ! I know i shouldt be speeding and i generally don't , they were both mobile cameras on the edge of towns on straight roads with no side roads or pavements and no houses either absolutely nothing to protect or preserve .
If you ask me 90% of them are just money earners .

All insurance companies use 5 years as a risk measure. If you don't read the insurance small print and don't tell them about stuff it will be fine, until it goes wrong of course............

Its quite scary these days with so much of this speed cameras, up I'm well nervous going in to new areas I do also rely on my satnavs speedo, as I don't trust mine so a second opinion of the Satnav I look at also, what is bad when you have drivers right up behind you which makes me well nervous as its intimidating, but also try to stick to speed limits in always thinking its me who's going to suffer, and if they in a hurry they can over take lol makes me feel better lol

I've just got caught 82 on a dual carriageway (clear day just overtaking some lorries) by a camera van, if it'd been an actual person I'm sure it would have just been a ticking off.
Anyway, speed awareness for me at £90.
I've got the letters somewhere, but most of it is done on-line these days, e.g. paying the fine.

Just to confirm that you do have to 'surrender' your license, paper or photo, if you take the points. The speed awareness course option is all online.

My wife sent her plastic part off when she got points. I assumed she was being a numpty. I stand corrected!

Rule of thumb
Points are valid for 3 Remain visible on your licence for 4 Declared for insurance purposes for 5
