Just read through all this. I'll add a Saab 99 to the list of mighty purdy looking cars then, honestly don't think I've ever seen one in the flesh (metal). I just love 70's styling, by your signature you're quite fond of it yourself. Yes indeed, you could say that I'm a bit of a fan of Saabs, especially 99's

Wow this brings back memories: I used to have one of these. Preceded by a 99 GLS and followed by an EMS Combi. Fantastic cars. At one point an aftermarket turbo was fitted which was a riot. I love them, they're great cars. Mine does need work as can be clearly seen, but I'll get there eventually. I bet the 99 with aftermarket Turbo was an absolute scream to drive. Very grin inducing.

I've had a fair few 99's over the years including a '71 1850, a '75 99L along with a couple of 80's vintage models. A friend had an EMS in the early 80's, sadly it caught fire on the motorway one hot summer. Luckily everyone got out! A shame about the car, but more important that they got out ok. I was very close to acquiring my all time favourite saab, a 76 99 EMS 2-door, around 10 years ago when the owner suddenly decided to scrap it. Sad really considering it was still driving around 3 years earlier and the rarity of the model. still a bit of a sore point with me! I try to think perhaps it was too far gone.... Yeh, 99 EMS's are quite a rare car now. I hate seeing any scrapped or stripped, especially if they could be repaired. My other EMS is a 76 model, in Black (a rare colour I'm told)

Drove past intapart (well stopped at the temporary traffic lights on the road outside of) and saw this in their yard.... That looks a nice one. American front (4 headlamps) too.

Well, free time has definitely been against me lately and I haven't had a chance to use the 99 since the car run (pictured above). Anyway, last weekend I wasn't working (for a change) so thought I'd pick the car up and use it for the weekend. I got half way back home from my lockup (13 miles away) and she starts playing up. Now I knew the injection system wasn't in perfect health and also that the fuel tank was far from the best condition internally because it's a metal tank and not plastic like the later 99 models were fitted with. When I changed the primary and secondary fuel filters about a month ago, I shook the old filters out to see what came out of them. I was greeted by nice clean fuel.....closely followed by some water and then rust!!! Recently I stripped a 1984 Saab 99 that I bought for spares a few years ago. This car has the later type plastic fuel tank, but as Saab increased fuel tank capacity from 10 to 12 gallons, it's not a straight swap and the tank strap support brackets need relocating, plus the filler pipe route is slightly different (I'm told). So, she's now parked in the lockup and waiting for some attention Another item that the spares car has been relieved of is a 5 speed box. The standard 99 EMS is very low geared and at 50mph the engine is doing nearly 3250rpm. The 5 speed box, should lower the engine revs considerably, hopefully around 1000rpm lower at the same road speed. This car will also donate its wheel arches and side vents on the rear 1/4 panels (maybe even the complete rear 1/4 panels) as the EMS needs at least one wheel arch replacing and both the vent grills are rusting quite well. Lots to do and with the nights drawing in plus a busy time of year in work, it may well be 2017 before I manage to get either of these jobs done.
