Hi folks, Had this for about 3 years but not really had a chance to do anything with it until fairly recently and even then, it's only been now and then due to work. Anyway, the car is a 1974 (built), 1975 (registered) Saab 99 EMS 2dr. It has the Saabs own 1985cc engine, which is based on the Triumph 1850cc slant four, but much improved for reliability. Being an EMS model, it has fuel injection which is Bosch D-Jetronic electronic, not Bosch K-Jetronic as fitted to the later EMS models (1975 on). The car had been mot'd each year for the 3 or 4 years before I bought it and then driven back to the garage who had been storing and working on it for the owner. So in the 3 - 4 years before I bought it, it had done less than 100 extra miles. Unfortunately, space was needed and lack of contact from the owner meant that the car ended up sat outside for 2 - 3 years. This didn't really do it any favours.

Roof lining was shot as you can see, so that was promptly removed. With the Saab Owners Club National weekend coming up at the end of July, I'm trying to get her ready for MOT next weekend. She certainly won't be a prize winner and more rat look this year, but it will be there. First job was look to see what welding needed doing, if any. I haven't found any that will fail an MOT, so fingers crossed on that one. There were some obvious corrosion issues under both front and rear window rubbers, so being the worst, the rear screen was removed. As time is not on my side at present, a temporary repair (bodge) has been done to (hopefully) make her water tight.

Looks like a good base! Turn it into something lovely! What are the plans? Yeh, in general, she's solid in the usual mot failure/scrapping due areas, she's just not too pretty, yet. As the Saab event is only a few weeks away, for now, it's just a case of get it mot'd and tidied up as much as I can. Also, Bosch D-Jet injection can be temperamental/unreliable, so the intention is to use her for 6 - 12 months and see how things prove on that score and once I have a suitable workshop at the house, then strip it fully and go right through it and restore it from a bare shell. That's the plan at present anyway.

Love it, all the better from not being a black Turbo (as nice as they are) this has loads of potential to be a real eye catcher.

As much as I love black 99 turbos and do actually own one(a black 2dr saloon), but it's in dire near of a reshell (one day). The EMS is so much rarer and I'm lucky(or should that be greedy) enough to own two of them.

Well, rear window is back in, seat belts re-attached, all lights, washers and wipers working. I THINK, she's all ready for MOT on Saturday. I'll have to pull the rear screen back out again after MOT though as have been re-covering the roof lining and rear quarter pillar trims (They do look good, but I forgot to take pics) and that needs to go back in. That's assuming it passes and there are no major jobs to do.

Well done you got a thread on the 99 going. My favourite colour and spec of 99, aside from a red turbo, especially with the soccer balls. Like the idea of thr lime stripe very 70's Swedish Starsky and Hutch! A set of rear window louvres would be nice. Are you going to start the 96 when this is done?

I had a boggo 1973 99 back in the early 1980s. Its hard to describe to somebody who has never driven one just how brilliant they were ( and are) compared to other makes of that era. Id owned Cortinas, Vivas, Chevettes and a very early Cavalier but my 99 was like a driving a Roller by comparison. Sure, they have issues like all other cars but, seriously, a massively overlooked and underrated classic IMO. i shall read on with great interest. Best of luck!

Finally started one. lol I know what you mean about colour and spec etc. I love 99 EMS. The one with the green stripe is gorgeous. Louvre, hmmm. Would be a nice addition. Yes, hoping to start on the 96 next.

I can relate to that. 99's are a great car, even base spec models. Not always the fastest car, but capable of holding a high constant speed no matter what the conditions are.

On a 900 2-door you can fit the roof lining card in through the boot. Probably the same for the 99?
