The title of this thread struck me as being somewhat tongue misleading. Taking into account the era when most of these vehicles were manufactured, and the disposable income available to many, then such cars were definitely better than catching the bus, or even having to walk. The selection of cars revealed clearly appeal to many, who also think that their vehicles are cool. Takes all sorts. The title is sarcastic. retrolegends the thread starter lists an Allegro on banded steels as one of his vehicles, and then goes on to post lost of cool BMC stuff. The thread is then full of really cool stuff with the odd shocker thrown in for good measure. I'm sure you meant ironic, not sarcastic. Being sarcastic is like verbal irony, only to convey contempt or to mock. This thread is the opposite of that.

As cool as that mini is, the arches are from a roundnose sportpack mini , In the front arch you can see the shape/dent in the bottom for the end of the bumper to locate in. The arches fit really well, but would you not fill that dent in the arch? And come to think of it, the shape for the indicator in the top of the arch. Still a nicely done mini.

Never really warmed to the Maestro at all.Oddly enough though I really liked how the Turbo/MG looked. Same shape car but with a bit of styling and wheels it was completely transformed.

The thread is then full of really cool stuff with the odd shocker thrown in for good measure. I'm sure you meant ironic, not sarcastic. Being sarcastic is like verbal irony, only to convey contempt or to mock. This thread is the opposite of that. Thank you for pointing that out to me; I'll try and do better in future. My experience with Leyland products goes back to the formation of BMC and then onto BLMH, and so on; working in Birmingham, the local politicians, insisted on supporting local industry, which on the face of it was quite right. The only problem was that local industry didn't appear to be capable of manufacturing good quality products. Inevitably glaring faults were found, in a very short time, primarily because the fleet was being run 24/7, with some daily mileages averaging 200 - 300 miles/day; some were even higher. When I say faults, I mean faults, such as bulkheads splitting from top to bottom on one model. The Longbridge Staff thought they had been set up, but no such luck. Metal pressings just split; very worrying. These vehicles are from a different era, with different production standards. They weren't all bad, we just used and abused them to do a job. It wasn't until Volvo entered the Public Sector market that home-grown manufacturer's realised that they needed to pull their finger out. Volvo were then very quickly followed by BMW, Saab, Jeep, and one or two others.

The Rover P8 Prototype is apparently at Gaydon but itβs in a bit of a mess. Pics were taken a few years ago and are from ARonline

I've often wondered if it's possible to get pre-production prototypes road registered via IVA rules. Would be awesome to bring that up to standard (including tidying up some of the bits and pieces) and drive aroud in it for a bit
