I wonder if anyone can help me with this problem, its new car related but hope admin don't mind.
I've been given a brand new vw caddy from work, it has dab radio which is awesome. I have a small Panasonic tough book tablet that I use for work and the van has a 12v charging system for it. As soon as I plug my charging wire into the tough book, the dab goes off, it flashes up a little picture of an antenna with a cross though it. This symbol usually comes up when I'm in the middle of nowhere and dab fails. Normal radio still works, like radio 2 etc, but just dab loses its signal.
Does anyone know why charging my tablet would cause me to loose my dab?

Does it happen with any 12v load or just the tough book?

Mostly happens with the tough book sometimes with the sat nav too. Sometimes it'll come back on for 5 minutes here and there. It's been puzzling me for a while, but I was stuck in a traffic jam today and noticed the tough book wasn't on charge so I popped the cable in and the dab went off. Pulled the cable back out and the dab worked again. Tried this back and forth a few times and every time the dab went off when cable was plugged in.

If it has a ECU it's complicated :)

I have a DAB work radio made by Pure, if its on charge and i plug in anything near it with a transformer such as a laptop or poaer adapeter it kills the signal, now maybe your van is not the same but i am guessing DAB is affected by local frequency, Dooes the panasonic tough book have 12v power or some kind of inverter? hope you sort it out as i hate things like this.

Hi, Is it sensing and thinking a nearby transmission like hands free phone is in use and turning the radio off for it's non distracting use? It could be getting all confused.

There's a black box behind the passenger seat, not sure if it's a power inverter or some kind of transformer. It's 6 X 2 inch, a cable goes into that, then another runs out and into the tough book. I don't think it's turning the radio off as all the normal non dab stations work fine.
It is doing my head in as I love dab, I don't like chart music so the rock stations are perfect for me. The only option at the moment is to charge my tough book at home on a night or put up with it constantly going on and off.

Try putting a ferrite ring on the power cable for the tough book. The lead is acting like an antenna and creating interference.

I've experienced the same problem when charging my phone in the works van, will have to pick up a ferrite ring. Cheers!
