I'm currently recommissioning a 69 year old Chevy that has been dormant for 36 years (thread link in my signature below).
Next step is to clean the chassis/bottom of body and paint it to protect from the ravages of British weather and roads.
The catch is that while the engine runs, the car itself is not mobile at this time (brakes, etc need doing), so taking it anywhere to do this is a non-starter.
My thoughts are to pressure wash the bottom to get rid of all mud, dust, oil, etc from the years of US back roads and standing in a horse paddock..
The catch is that I don't want to lie on my back with my nose against the chassis while pressure cleaning, so I need to lift the car as high as safely possible. Budget is a problem though as is my sloping drive and neighbours (else a 2-post lift would have already been installed)
Suggestions please!!!

Nice, that'll get the pressure washing done, but what about the painting afterwards? Still need the car in the air. And not just on little axle stands either...

Big axle stands like you would use for a body dozer when straightening a chassis, should easily be able to get it up high enough to work uncomfortably, it's been a while but I think you used to be able to get about 2ft clear under them, all I can think of otherwise would be to drain all the fluids and almost roll it sideways, not sure about the stresses on the suspension doing that though.

Probably a plan. Need to find some real big ones. Not rolling this car on it's side. I've got 12 ton axle stands. They raise to 28" - just measured. We'll have a look. raise one side at a time on some decent stands and wear old clothes and accpet you will get and messy , with the wheels off and laying on the ground you will get it clean ...look at getting a dirt blaster nozzle and a 90 deg one I don't mind getting dirty (I realise it might have sounded different), it's the drawling around that's the problem. Will get something to get it high. I've got 12 ton axle stands. They raise to 28" - just measured. Can you post a photo, so we can see if we can but the materials and make some please? We'll have a look at the listing you sent and see what can be found, thanks.

I think the ones we used to have were bigger than those in the listing. Pretty sure they were made by Blackhawk same as the dozer.

Is there somewhere you can rent a suitable lift ? My problem is that the car doesn't drive, so would need trailering which adds to inconvenience and cost. I know I won't be as quick with the work as I'd like, so that means extended time. Also, this won't be my only project. I might need to bite the bullet and buy something. But the sloping drive makes most solutions impractical. Might have to make something custom.

All, thanks for the great suggestions. It got me thinking and working out what could work and what would not.
The Tip-Jack/car rollers wouldn't work as the drive is too narrow Things like the one-side lift I wouldn't be comfortable with due to the slope of the drive
High axle stands are a great idea, but need to ensure I have something stable enough on the sloping drive.
As I said in response to the Tip-Jack suggestion, it would be ideal if I could tip the vehicle lengthways rather than sideways.
Well, that got me thinking. What about if I could get a narrow enough car trailer. Put the car on the trailer, that would raise it. Fair enough, I'd be tripping over trailer axles, but I could handle that.
A further major plus for a trailer is that a) it's easy to get home (I don't have a van), I can simply tow it home; and b) it should be easy to sell again in the future.
So, off to Ebay to do some searching, and guess what. Found a trailer listed in the last hour in the next town along (7 miles away) for what looks like a bargain price. So, I've hit the BIN button and will discover what I've bought later in the week, Hope I t works out else I'll have a trailer for sale. (Pictures will be on my main thread later).
Of course, I will still have the problem of jacking the vehicle to remove the wheels for doing the brakes, but that's a problem for another day.
