Unfortunately the time has come to move on my Cortina, I bought it in January 2013 and used it as a daily for a year before taking it off the road for some light resto work, however time, space and a lack of available budget mean that aside from collecting some parts I never got started.
The good:
It has a lot of history with it, old MOTs, Tax discs, receipts etc.
In the year I ran it I fitted a new water pump and thermostat, all new hoses, a Land rover brake master cylinder and new copper lines and a freshly rebuilt type 9 gearbox.
It has a set of Wolfrace Turbo Vec style wheels, with the correct bolts and 4 decent budget tyres. These were refurbed before fitting and are in decent shape (although grubby). It also comes with the original Ford steels.
It has a Philips DAB stereo with iPod connectivity, complete with mag mount aerial so you can pretend to be in the Sweeney.
It is mostly solid.
It is a GXL
The Bad:
There is a small rust hole above the nearside rear wheel arch.
The sills have been replaced as well as the offside wing, they are still in primer.
There is a rust patch on the nearside scuttle that will need to be properly fixed.
The interior is tatty, but complete. There is no carpet and door cards are uncut.
It will need to be trailered away.
The indifferent:
It has a mountney boss and steering wheel, the original is included but is lacking its leather trim. I fitted a K&N air filter but again the original filter box is included. I can even chuck in a Haynes and maynbe an autobooks manual if I can find it.
It comes with a few odds and sods of trim etc. as well as a 4 brach pinto manifold (believed to be Cortina GT) that is rusty but solid, a new Cherry Bomb back box and a set of Hel braided front brake lines.
I would love to have this back on the road, but the reality is that I haven't got the time or space to work on it, nor the skills to do it justice. It served me well for the year I ran it, and never failed to put a smile on my face.
