Had the day off and decided to visit my (erstwhile) favourite wrecking yard. Get this, they now charge admission Almost no real surprise again. No Skoda (too rare), no Intrepid (too new), but plenty of bits for the Sierra (the truck), none of which I really need. No Italian, two Lada, a Saab and a hell of a lot of Volvos. More than I have fingers and toes which is unusual. The Volvos not the toes. ;D There was however one of these. First one I've seen in a yard. Uh, sit down. Also got caught in traffic with this .........Z24 thing

I still find it hard to believe that those bumpers were for real! I remember seeing pictures of them in books when I was a kid in the 80s and thinking "No way!" ;D

Also got caught in traffic with this .........Z24 thing A few years ago an American Serviceman lived next door to my folks. He had something that looked very similar to that, but I think his was called a Pontiac Cavalier. I remember thinking it was very out-dated in comparison to UK stuff of the time, being a 1991 registered car but clearly being based on the Mk1 Charverlier / Manta B platform....

The Z24 was an option package for the Chevy Cavalier. Upgraded motor, suspension, wheels, interior and exterior trim. This one happens to have some kind of non-stock growth on the back

Are they not a by-product of the Mk 2 cavalier FWD platform? Not that that is anything to be proud of mind you.

I believe so. Chevy Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire. Most small(er) Chev stuff seems to be based on the Chevette(s)/Kadett, Omega, Cavalier and such. Except for a couple Suzuki built items. I think all the Isuzu or Daewoo built, Chevy badged cars were originally Opels and Vauxhalls

That yard looks unhealthily tidy and well organized compared to what we Brits are used to...... where's the mud, the unstable piles of cars and the snarling, slavering dogs/yard owners......... ;D
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

The only time you normally see stacks the cars have alredy been crushed. That said, the yard out in Cherryville has a large number of trees to contend with, some growing through the cars, on the side of a hill.

If someone had 'invented' that bumper set up at home in the garage they'd be laughed off the freakin road. to find its a 'factory' job - christ on a bike.
