1984 Scimitar SS1 1.6 for sale. This has been my little fun car for enjoying the B road in, something it is great for. Will come with MOT till July '17
For those who don't know these are a great light weight sports car with composite panels over a steel chassis. This one has the the galvanized chassis so there is no rust to worry about either. Running gear is mostly Ford (1.6 XR3 cvh engine, type 9 5 speed gearbox and a Sierra diff) and many other parts come from other vehicles. Suspension is independent all round which helps them handle really well, and it's also had Spax adjustable rate dampers fitted at the front. They are a very cheap, easy to maintain and fun classic.
I've had it since the end of last year and in that time have sorted out a lot of little issues so it now runs, drives and works as it should.
These have a surprising amount of electrics on them (mirrors, windows, pop up lights, aerial) and they all work correctly - which seems to be a rare thing!
I've also replaced all the fluids including gearbox/diff oil and brake fluid. Plugs leads and rotor arm/cap have also been changed. A new master cylinder and front brake pads have also been fitted.
The hood appears to only be a few years old, and is in pretty good condition. I've treated this with waterproofer so it actually works (this is still a british sports car, but you don't get soaked with the roof up!)
The body has polished up well, but there are a lot of blemishes. There are a number of paint chips all over, and there is some blistering on the bonnet. The front bumper has also been repainted and though a close match, it is a slightly different shade (don't notice it much). The drivers door is the worst panel, and has some cracking to the paint. To be honest if you wanted it to be really nice it needs a respray. But for a summer toy, it's more than nice enough to get good comments from passers by.
The interior has also seen better days, but it all works and I've bolted much of it back together to fix some rattles. Seats have been recovered so these aren't bad, but most parts are showing their age. The worst bit is that it seems to have had a hot air gun placed on the center console lid at some point, with obvious results.... The inside of the hood is also stained - sure you could clean it up, but it never bothered me. Worth noting the speedo also over reads, it needs a different drive pinion in the gearbox but again I just figured out what speed was what and just used as is.
So there you have it, it's not perfect or even pretty, but it's a lot of fun for not a lot of money, and it certainly get noticed.
Please give me a call if you want to know more, or what to come view.
