Road Trip....? Did I hear Road Trip What you after this time Craig ?? Ah, you found me out!! Quick road trip to North Wales this weekend to collect a couple of donor scooters as spare engines for my Messerschmitt replica. Just in case!!! No pictures I'm afraid, too much driving, too little stopping!! See you Sunday at Arena Essex for the Swapmeet? Could be some stuff you do not need there. Swapmeet was fun, great to see you there and to meet some of the forum guys, Dez of '48 Fleetmaster fame, as well as darrenh and some others (apologies if I not quoting you all). I managed to get some random bits, mostly cheap old tools (all my tools were metric, so still collecting some imperials) as well as a must have Coke bottle handle and a correct 15" wheel for the aero! Only 4 more needed now to replace the 16"s!! Pictures of everything below. I did also get 2 unused peep mirrors for half the new cost. Oh and saw some nice pickups!! SO while I'm here, a missing update from a couple of weeks ago. I eventually tidied up the Coke Fridge motorcycle gear wardrobe and fitted a clothes rail (I 3D Printed some custom brackets in order to use the pole I rescued from a skip). I also 3D Printed some brackets to help center and glue the bottle caps onto the handles.

You got some great stuff.
Love the tools and especially the adjustable magnifying glass.
And of course got to meet Darren Hardy and see his stash of laser cut signs, as well as the legend that is Kev from Wales.
A great day out indeed.
It would be great if someone has some more 15" wheels for your car out in a shed somewhere.
Next stop Wheels Day.........

Love the Beemer, looks like a very well looked after example - I'd have cleaned the lawnmower a bit if I'd known it was going on those lovely clean carpets!! I just put my old VW Transporter up for sale and was planning on replacing it with a big old German estate car - might be interested in the BMW if that's just a temporary parts hauler for you?

Currently driving a '68 Karmann Ghia as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

Not to worry, I had my protective blanket in the car already (in fact I had carted it along on the train on Saturday) and thats the main reason for strapping the mower down so it doesn't roll around and bang into the side. As I said before, it photographs better than in person, there are a few scratches dotted about the car, but yes, it is tidy for it's age and mileage. The worst is a couple of rust bubbles on the rear arches and a largish one on the "D" pillar next to the tailgate opening. As for it being temporary. My normal mode is to get bored with cars after about 6 months, so the fact that we have run the ML500 for almost 5 years is crazy, so it's the ML that'll be for sale soonest. We've decided it isn't a suitable donor for the Pickup (mainly because it's right hand drive, but we also want to stick to a Chevy drive line). That said, if something else that would get me, a friend and two offroad bikes to Wales in mid-April cropped up, I'd move the BMW sooner. (Especially if it saves me having to fit a towbar).

Now that it's crunch time to decide, SWMBO doesn't want to use th eML as a donor for her pickup, so it's now on Ebay cheap. No photos on your thread?

So, sorry to say, but still no real progress on the Aerosedan, but some related activity... So the ML500 and trailer noted above as for sale have both now been sold and progress is being made on sorting out the Beemer which has it's own thread ( click here for more details or try the link in my signature. In slightly more Aerosedan related news, on Friday grizz and I went to Surrey Wheels Day. Here's a gratuitous selfie of the intrepid duo just after parking up and about to venture out upon the field. Between us we took a few pictures as have many others, you can see these all by clicking this link: Surrey Wheels Day 2017 - Grizz & CraigRK's Pics. I was blown away to be approached by a complete stranger stopping us to comment on how much he enjoyed our threads here on Retro Rides. eternaloptimist , thanks for taking the time to say hi, you made my day! Of specific interest, I spotted two Aerosedans. The first is one I have previously had the privilege of standing next to as it was trimmed by my neighbor. It's the cream/beige/rust one which runs a Transit engine & box with Jag front end and Volvo rear. The owner wasn't around at the time, but I took a few pics for inspiration. The second is blue and is sporting a small block Chevy, the current owner (Rich I believe) has had it for 14 years. It was good to chat with him for a bit. I also managed to snap some inspiration pictures for SWMBO's vehicle, but you'll have to check out the other thread for those in due course. Hopefully next year I can apply for a field pass and get the Aerosedan onto the field...

Popped over to Craigs place today to drop off a Powershower for my brother in South Africa 🇿🇦 Again captivated by this cars looks and lines. I never know whether I prefer the front or rear view. Not sure what the rest of you guys think...... other than maybe wanting to own it.

In response to grizzI love it!! Both front and rear and even the sides! The lines are beautiful! But not for the reasons some others will... To me they invoke a picture in my head..... no doubt helped by the awesome patina this car wears. They are beautiful freshly painted as well, but this patina only comes around once. I do feel it very important that all that chrome to accent the lines, lines up perfectly...especially when the rear wheel covers asre also used. I like it because of it's dorkiness (no offence). From the rear it looks like an old slow grandpa walking with his back arched from years of hard manual labour signalling to others please don't rush me, just pass me. The front does something similar to me. I see that same old man now with a beard and a look in his eyes that betray days past where he was a daring young man on top of the world, who now realises he can only look at a life that is slowly creeping to an end. The whishful look of yearning for days past in his eyes. Once again I appologise in advance if this is offensive to the owner. I believe cars tell stories and this is the story I see in this car.

I totally get what you are saying, and have no doubt Craig will too. Thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts. Certainly not offensive imho.

Thanks for that. I was a bit worried that it might be misinterpreted...
I often think in "pictures" in my head like the above. Don't really know why, I guess it has something to do with nostalgia and being a true romantic at heart. But the challenge here is to put it down in English and still convey the sentiment I had meant.
It's also RR that has taught me a previously lacking appreciation for patina...

Having read your sentiments (twice, once in purple!) I think you put that very well indeed and yes, I can picture what you are saying. I just hope I don't have too much similarity with the looks - yet!

I saw this on my little ones shelf last night. I bought it for him a few years ago. It's a '47 too. Nice!! I have 3 dotted around the house (in addition to the full size one on the drive)!! You have great taste! In response to grizz I love it!! Both front and rear and even the sides! The lines are beautiful! But not for the reasons some others will... The whishful look of yearning for days past in his eyes. Once again I appologise in advance if this is offensive to the owner. I believe cars tell stories and this is the story I see in this car. Love it. I've caught up with Grizz's response as well and confirm, no offence taken. I love this car. The shape. The patina. The chrome. The solidity. The fact it still just works. My father had very specific ideas about cars. As a mechanic he had no interest in doing body work. He didn't have an issue with improving a vehicle, but he didn't really mod them, more like retrofitting things from newer models to older, e.g. Electronic ignition, better brakes, etc.. He hated stickers being applied to (his) cars. But he still appreciated that others would do all the things he didn't. I inherited all of the above, and more, including a desire to modify, etc. I love all sorts of vehicles, from original, to custom, from low power and derided through to high power and desired. I love that you love my car and the fact that you see something different in it to what I see. I see this car as a grand old dame. Once beautiful, now a bit weathered, but that beauty remains under the skin. When looking from the rear, my immediate thought is that age old classic "Does my bum look big in this?", from the front, you can imagine the big blossomed grand old dame sailing across the room. Enjoy, and thanks for your comments!!!
