I found this plate on the front of my pick up, but what does it mean? I'm guessing that it is in reference to towing stuff? But what does GVW and GCW, or maybe GOW mean? Thanks in advance.

And gross curbside weight

If it can be fixed with a hammer, then it must be an electrical fault

And gross curbside weight Hi, Erm no, it may refer to gross combination weight by the Japanese but here it will be gross train weight. Kerbside weight is the weight of the vehicle with all fluids, full tank of fuel and driver of a weight of 75kgs. Colin

Hi, Because it's GTW is 4900kgs that can have further restrictions due to your licence and the use you put it to.

I see, i thought that was probably what it was, i just wasn't sure, and i needed someone to explain this to me, so am i right in thinking that the pick up is about 1900 kgs i can tow a trailer weighing nearly 3 tonnes? I've never really known how to work this all out.

The data plate is what the police vosa etc use when dealing with weights etc when they pull you over. Driving licence entitlement is another matter.

Hi, OK so having looked at your profile and seen your age you will have a pre '97 licence with B+E which means you can drive vehicles up to 7.5ton and 8.25ton with a trailer. Is this correct? I ask the question because if you've sent your licence to DVLA for any change of details, they've a habit of dropping groups off and if you don't notice and query it straight away, you lose them unless you take a test again. So in short you can drive it up to the limits on the plate, for personal use. If you are using it for business use with the trailer then you will need tacho, tacho card and drivers CPC.
Colin
Edit: I'm sure optimusprime can confirm or deny that.

And keeping records .... And downloading tacho card every month ......... As Colin says check you haven't lost any entitlements if you've had to send off your licence for any reason. I always photocopy mine. No way i'm retaking my Hgv again just through an dvla cock up.

Thanks fellas for clearing it up. I do have a pre 97 licence, and have driven with trailers on and off for about twenty years, but until i noticed that plate on the front of my pick up i didn't give it any thought, just hitched up, jumped in, and drove off into the sunset! I'm not doing it as a business or anything, i just hire a trailer as and when i need one. Thanks again for the advice
