It sounds like the battery is goosed, the draw on it, is not huge by any standards.
The reason the voltage drops so quick from over 13V is thats surface charge from the charger, you will find it will even out at about 12.5-12.8V
As to the 'magic eye' your neighbor is talking nonsense it can't 'glow' and green just indicates it has the correct amount of acid in it.
What happens is over time the Lead plates corrode which means there is less surface area for the chemical reaction so it acts like a smaller and smaller battery. Also the 944 has a fairly small battery for the size of engine, your battery will be fully charged but incapable of producing anywhere near the amps it should.

Theres a simple check really. If it's going flat overnight simply leave it disconnected over night. If it still goes down its the battery. If it doesn't it's the car.
Usually the most likely culprit for the latter is the alternator leaking current in my experience.

Thanks slater. So i left it in the car - unconnected. Measured today and its saying 13.1v. So that sounds ok?

Thanks slater. So i left it in the car - unconnected. Measured today and its saying 13.1v. So that sounds ok? Well it holds its charge, but if when its fully charged to Amps are to few it won't start anything. It is also possible that if the battery is that pathetic it may not even be able to power the radio/clock/alarm all night. A new one should be about £50 for an 075 battery. If you were more local I could do you one for £40 and check it out properly with my kit.

Thanks all.
I will go and try it again when it stops raining. One think i did note was that it is only a 440cA. Is this enough for Porsche 944?

Probably but if it's faulty it may put out a decent voltage but as soon as you draw any amps yhe voltage falls away to nothing. This is why I say to check it actually works rather than trying to diagnose using multimeter readings they can be very deceptive.

IMO it would be OK for a 944 but not enough. ECP list the minimum size as a 540CCA battery ; 440CCA IMO is normally kept for the smaller engine cars. Even with a 540CCA battery 944s are not the fastest of starters ; My S2 on a large Bosch Black was a slow cranker. While my Turbo was a little quicker on a fresh(ish) stock sized Bosch Black, still did not spin up as fast as the cars in my signature, including the Escort if I left that for a month.
The chances are that battery was fitted could be a multitude of reasons, including cost, fitment (alot of batteries out there IME are too tall;Uniparts seem to be the worst ones) or what was lying around (I have been guilty there for a short term fix!).
Anyway, have you had much joy?

ChasR - thanks mate - it is a difficult position. Do i bite the bullet and go and buy a new battery from EurocarParts to only sell the car at a loss in a couple of weeks? I really need shot of this now as I have no love for it at all. Its because i am going through some tough times personally.

Put your battery back on and see what happens.
It's the wrong thing to say but even on something as simple as a battery I'd be haggling hard if I was buying the car but I haggle anyway - I have probably only paid the full asking price on a handful of occasions. I would be wondering what else is wrong ; after all, £70 on a battery is cheap there is another issue; bodged wiring looms, iffy starter motor for example.
However, you are speaking to someone who is hands on with their cars, which is a game changer.
