Does anyone know of any specialist companies who fit bespoke turbo's to non turbo cars such as my E34 535/E28 528i? Would be looking for drive in, drive out fully fitted and set up. Who does this sort of thing, there's a multitude of drift cars out there at the moment running non original turbos. Do these guys all build them themselves?

As a rule, if a turbo is being fitted to a non turbo car, there are a lot of things to take into consideration, as the compression ratios are different between turbo and no turbo engines. Not to mention the fueling differences, cooling, intercooling, oil feed and the subtle timing differences. Lets also not forget the insurance challenges that may ensue. It could prove economically un viable compared to buying another engine from a scrapper , or getting a scrapper with the desired engine in as you have everything you need in one package. Thats what i would do myself. It might be worth having a nose on a Drift forum to see what they say though.

There are many people that can do what you ask, but it all cost's money. Unless your prepared to throw 10k at the car to do it properly, it's not worth considering.

Appreciate the replies, really £10k? I'd thought somewhere between £3k to £5k but really have very little knowledge.

I suppose a [ reputable ] company will not take short cuts and will consider all aspects of a conversion so you , and them and have piece of mind .
Sure you might get someone to do it cheap but it might fall apart or break something .

Yeah, considering just the labour costs, most places are well in excess of £70 per hour, thats where a lot of the money will go. Just 1 day of labour is going to be £560! It does just depend on what you are after and how much you want it really.

Mmm good find Dave, never seen that before. The US company will sell their RHD M30 manifold on its own so not beyond the realms of possibility to use a kit like that in combination.

Something else that may make somewhere wary of doing it is the potential for comeback when it goes wrong in some way.
If you are known to them as an existing customer it may make a difference wether they are willing to tackle it or even just do the engineering side of it leaving you to do the final instal (and for you to take responsibility if it goes pop).
Sad state of affairs but you can imagine someone melting down an engine then getting trading standards etc involved, it's just not worth the potential hassle.

Not being funny, but any workshop worth their salt wont go anywhere near either of those "kits".

Yup, converting an N/A car to a turbocharged one is rarely a cheap or easy process. jimbo200sx can testify that one with his project. Even if you take the engine rebuild kit out of the equation it is still a hell of alot of money. The *cheap* way to do it would be to source a manifold, turbo, get the exhaust modified and then put on an injector driver like the MF-II 5th Injector kit. However, you would still need to figure out how to retard your ignition enough, and it still would not be that great a setup. Even in parts the bill would not be pleasant (less than £1-2k, but still...).

If you really want it done go and buy the parts.
Then get it fitted.
Turbo. Exhaust manifold. Exhaust (bespoke/made on site). Oil feed and return pipes. Intercooler. Ecu (maybe loom). Silicone hoses. Dump valve. Map sensor. Cometic head gasket. Head studs. Rod bolts. Better plugs. And more bits.

Sounds like a good plan, and as per my request on the original post does anybody know of anyone who'd fit it?
