Absolutely superb mate, that back end will help get that V8 loveliness to the road...is it the one from the estate carlton you used to have ? :-) Was it you that had the mk1 carlton diesel as well !?! My memory isnt what it was. Yeah I had the camo estate and loved that car, it will live on again one day as I sold it to a friend. I never had a mk1 derv though.

Update: Pretty boring one this week, just cleaning, cutting back old stuff, welding etc.. I did finish off the remote oil filter though by sorting out the last issue (I hope), once again it's another design flaw! The rubber o-ring seals pinch when you do the AN8 adaptors up anything close to tight: Proper noob error, anyway £3 and several days later it was ebay to the rescue with metal washers with seals bonded to them: Much better! All the unions, pipes and so on were cleaned out and I reassembled the lot all nice and tight this time. I also was able to add the first sensor: Just a little oil temp sensor, the 2nd port will house a GM oil pressure sender/switch but I'm having a little issue sourcing the correct adaptor atm. So the rest of the day I cleaned up the drivers wheel arch and welded up the passenger chassis rail: I am happy with it but what I wasn't happy with was setting fire to the underlay on the inside of the bulkhead: I was able to put the fire out with the powder extinguisher, but for some reason after using it once for like 1/4 of a second it slowly leaked out the rest of the air inside it so it's useless!!! I don't know if this is a purposeful design element so you have to recharge it before use again!?!? Anyway a can of zinc primer and its looking nice and solid: The sides of the front bumper slide onto those large brackets: For some reason both of these had suffered the worst of any part of the car for rot, I got it all off and have covered them in rust killer. Hopefully that will sort it.

Most excellent. Is it staying base model looking but with a V8 soundtrack?

DCP fire extinguishers are a pretty dumb design one use only. Personally I have CO2 extinguishers can be used multiple times a little more costly to refill service and pressure test. They also work great when the dog's are fighting with the neighbours dog's a quick blast and peace and quiet. I have several scattered around the house, pays to have a missus that works for a fire co.

had no idea this was possible... but it is now! nice fabrication
i fiddled around some time to hotwire my bmw 740i ECU & loom, after studying the schematic came to the conclusion that the CAN bus between the engine ECU the autobox contol unit meant it could never work standalone. Later someone told me there was an outfit that could re-flash the ECU chip to tell it to ignore the autobox (and the PAS). Maybe this is possible with the LS400 ECU

Are you planning to weld the glued-in bulkhead? Rumors says that it will stiffen up Carlton bodies quite a lot.

Maybe this is possible with the LS400 ECU It's not necessary, The Lexus ECU will be missing some sensors and so on but it won't flash up the ECU light, instead it will warn you if you plug it into a diagnostics machine but that's it! It only lights up the ECU light if a main engine sensor or something pops.

Yeah definitely going for CO2 next time, my mate says car boots are ideal for such things.

Hats off to you mate, really enjoyed reading through this! Proof that plenty of research pays off - nice work on that gearbox adapter too.
Looking forward to seeing this done, please keep the hubcaps.

Small update: I had no luck finding an adaptor to get the M14x1.5 GM oil pressure sensor/switch to 1/2 bsp for the remote oil filter housing... so one got made lol Sorted!!! A solution to the Carlton battery tray, instead of spot welding a new one in (so it can rot out again) I took a Corsa-D plastic one: Trimmed it down: Unfortunately the mounting points aren't flush, this causes the tray to sit too high and at an angle: So they get cut out too: Test fitment with a small battery: Bigger one fits too: I placed the new slam panel in place to check for any foulage: I placed the radiator in to check that too: I then decided to move it further forward (check the bottom mounts Vs the radiator): With the radiator further forward I wanted to make sure the bull horn still fitted:# With that all sorted I moved on to derusting the O/S:
