Phase 1.5 205 GTI 1.6 with 137k on the clock, currently running a 16 valve 167 bhp GTI6 engine from the 306.
The conversion was done by myself (an aircraft engineer) and a friend (an automotive engineer), using Baker BM parts which were designed specifically to allow this engine to work in this car.
The 16 valve is mated to the original 1.6 8 valve gearbox which, in my opinion, retains the slightly "frantic" personality that people love about the 1.6.
I've owned the 205 for nearly 6 years now and during that time I've given it everything it's needed to keep it original, engine aside and in good fettle. I did use it for commuting for 6 months during which time i saw a regular 35mpg and never had a single break down, mental or mechanical.
Personally I love the way this car wears its discreet battle scars but it may not be to everyones taste. please bear in mind its not a show car. It is however very useable and quite original. If the buyer wants it can also come with the original 1.6 8v engine at no extra cost, but this would require a re build as it was starting to "breath heavy" and burn oil.
Some of the key points to the car are as follows;
4 original Italian Speedline alloys with Dunlop sport blue response tyres
Half leather GTI interior in perfectly useable condition
Very healthy 16v GTI6 engine with 167 bhp running standard management
Re-angled GTI6 exhaust manifold and matching down-pipe by miles at PugRacing
Full group N engine mount kit from Baker BM
Baker BM gear-change rod set and bronze quadrant bushes
Baker BM stainless steel inner wing coolant pipe
Baker BM thermostat housing and silicone top rad hose.
Power steering
Toad remote central locking with get you home lights
Boot mounted battery
Bilstein B12 front suspension and standard rear
Standard GTI exhaust system, not quiet but not horrifically loud, No doubt I've missed some bits but as you can see its got a lot of very high quality parts fitted.
Couple of bad points are that the 1.6 box is showing its age, the sycro on 4th isn't very good, it's still working but on its own French terms. The other is the paint, with a few different shades of white on the car, which is pretty normal considering its not been re sprayed.
Everything works as it should, including the vacuum seal on the sunroof. It had an MOT a few months ago with the only advisory being the PAS pipes were incorrectly routed and I've since sorted this.
I've put it up for £2000 but will listen to offers.
I am selling to indulge my desire for a Land Rover. I'm after a short wheel base, preferably Series 2 but definitely tax exempt. I would also rather it wasn't a rot box, obviously or a 110 of some kind.
This is a great car which has given me years of joy and I will be sad to part with it. Thanks for looking, please get in touch and I will answer any questions you may have.
