Hi guys I have a GT pre xflow lump and its getting rather hot from the exhaust mani, it doesn't help that an aluminium inlet manifold is directly on top of it ! I tried some heat wrap but I either didn't install it properly (although it was all nice and tight no gaps?!) or I maybe because it is a cheap curse word wrap? it keeps on smoking up, its quite frightening in my opinion, I thought the coating burned off but after 40 or so miles it still does it. anyway whats everyones opinions on ceramic coating to keep bay temperatures down? or is there a much better wrap I can use? thanks in advance people

I have googled them they will be getting a call tomorrow, what would a manifold typically cost then?

Absolutely no idea I'm afraid , i only know it as i used to make motorsport exhausts which were coated there . They say they do stuff for classics etc so it cannot be bad .

200-400 pounds for a manifold, I seem to remember.

I know someone whos manifold cracked after ceramic coating, so I would avoid anything too cheap.

I've used the power wrap stuff from Rally Design before, and yes it does smoke. but not for 40miles worth of driving Had good results with it, and a friend wrapped his manifold on an A series mini which would freeze the carb up on a constant journey Also know someone with a Corsa C that had his turbo manifold coated and that turned out a treat and seems to be holding the temps in. Would definately recommend Zircotec though, as although they are the more expensive option their coating is the best and hardest wearing

I think Zircotec must be the original manifold coating people because the ceramic is made from magnesium zirconate..
Exhaust wrap usually works really well, maybe try a different manufacturer? And avoid the stuff that looks like fabric. Have you thought about making a thermal barrier gasket from your inlet manifold? The material is easily workable with hand tools and along with a good wrap, and possibly a metal plate type heat shield if you can fit it on would yield good results.
I musty admit I am biased because I simply think there are higher priority components and systems on any classic to invest in other than hundreds of pounds on ceramic coatings, usually fuelling and ignition.

On our race pre-xflows we just use a shield (with some insulation mat stuck on) between exhaust and carbs. Cheaper option maybe.

Totally different ball game with a Rotary engine as Exhaust gets considerably hotter than a pi$$ tin engine, hence Luckyseven seemingly being unlucky...

For peoples info , Zircotec was developed for coating in the nuclear industry . There are a few places around near there that use that stuff so probably came from them or Oxford University to start with maybe .
