For me, get rid of Evans and Jordan. Keep Matt, Chris H, Sabine and Rory. Much better. Do you not think it might be a little flat without someone like Evans? I am shocked at how much negativity has been thrown at him, when the line-up was first announced there was plenty of moaning (humans never seem happier than when moaning about something) and yet now it seems like it was a good idea. I like what Chris H brings but even I as a confirmed petrolhead know he can be a little nerdy or even boring?
As much as I thought the previous setup had degenerated too far into a purely entertainment show, I realise a balance has to be struck to keep it mainstream.
I think the problem is Evans is nothing to the show. Harris has the same excitement but actually knows what hes talking about. Id rather Harris explained parts in painful detail than Evans shouted at me what colour it is. The old team, although acting like morons, clearly knew a lot about cars and what they were doing. Evans only seems to know how to open and start one... Plus we all know May was the best presenter, nerdy and likeable is the way to go.

Not really. I like Chris Evans on the radio, his CarFest is good. He just doesn't come across well on TV. It's not TFI Cars, we don't need shouting at, and he's got a wierd ego thing. I don't think he adds anything to the show.

Maybe your right, I wouldn't suggest I was in touch with the masses and probably quite the opposite in fact.
Harris I always thought came across as a decent guy with a fair amount of knowledge but a little dull, so would watch things that interested me but sort of unlikely to entice me to watch something new if that makes sense?
The key thing for top gear to survive is too establish a decent following, whether it be the same people who followed the previous trio of hopefully (from a selfish point of view) one that includes more car people. The simple truth was I had lost interest in the last few series, not because I didn't like someone but because it no longer entertained me, in fact no one watched it in our house anymore and yet at one time it was must see TV. For all its apparent flaws both my wife and I have watched all 3 episodes so far and despite there being some elements I am not so keen on or would like to improved have been increasingly entertained.
years ago I disliked CE not particular reason in particular I just thought he was annoying, maybe I have mellowed over the years but that's no longer the case, and maybe due to some of the ranting that has occurred since the start of the series I feel he has been treated pretty badly, although maybe he hasn't dealt with things as well as he could (some seem to have been very upset about his tweets about figures etc) and obviously being a "celebrity" means you leave you self open to a certain amount.
Car enthusiast. petrolheads etc come in all sorts for some its about speed, others details and facts and have varying levels of knowledge or skill be it behind the wheel or the ability to fabricate and build things from scratch, I personally don't think that makes anyone better than anyone else or is a precursor to being involved in the scene or even a TV show about it, and although it may not be immediately obvious and I could be wrong I suspect Chris Evans does contribute!

I'm finally catching up with Top Gear on my daily bus journey (ironic), currently watched episode 1&2.
After reading all the online chatter my hopes were somewhere between the carpet and the floorboards.
My impression so far is good. Episode 1 Evans was too shouty, but it was episode 1. Matt le Blanc genuinely surprised me. I like him. Yeah he's a bit wooden in the studio but I'm sure he'll loosen up and get more comfortable with a bit of practice. Out "in the field" he's great, personable, funny and it looks like he can actually drive.
The format has its flaws, I think they should have gotten rid of The Stig. Sabine and Chris Harris could easily do the fast driving and set the lap times. I think using them a bit like Tiff is used in Fifth Gear.
I also think that the Star in a <insert type of> Car should have also been dropped. It was the worst bit of the old Top Gear and continues to be so.
However apart from that I feel pretty hopeful. I think its going to settle down and develop well. Looking forward to episode 3 tomorrow.

So called star in a cheap car was just an excuse for Clarkson to meet his heroes and anyone else that took his fancy. Now it serves no useful purpose and though I quite like the rallycross idea, the "pure" track was better. Didn't like the "my cars are better than your cars" competition between guests and anyway, the guy with the 66 GTO should have won, my all time favourite car!
As for new TG in general, the jury is still out, I still find CE an obnoxious twit but the show IS improving.
I still enjoyed the old TG, right to the end, especially the foreign specials, many of which I have on DVD and the wife liked it too, It had long lost relevance as a car show but as a harmless hours tomfoolery it was great! Since I have got Amazon anyway, I WILL be watching the 3 Stooges in their new incarnation.

I enjoyed both Chris Harris and Rory Reid's sections on episode 3. They both seem enthusiastic and possibly a touch more passionate about the subject than the other presenters we have seen so far. Looking forward to seeing what episode 4 brings.

I have been watching this thread as well as watching the show and a few things come to my mind.
1, Lot of people complaining about Chris Evans being too full on. Might grate on us but I bet if you were an excited 9 year old you would get pulled along in his excitement and there will be a large portion of the viewers that are pre-teens and if you can sell them on the program you can sell them the sticker book, Stig toy, annual etc.
2, Stars in cars bit is rubbish in my point of view. Its not the one show or tgi friday so I don't care about what film starts are selling this week and it now seems to last 25 minutes.....Too long.
3, Somebody said Sabine should do the fast driving. As far as I can tell she did on the last episode but leave the presenting to the presenters.
4, "Give the job to the car guys". At the moment they couldnt hold the show by themselfs but think about this. Top Gear or film role? Do you think Matt LeBlank would stick with Top Gear for the next 10 years? Perhaps the long term plan is to phase out MLB and CE as the other guys find their feet and take over.
5, Its only been on 3 times, they are still tweaking it, it will get better and if it dosnt its not the end of the world but I hope it works. Cars and entertainment to distract from work the next morning? Thats good in my book.
Dave.

Just ditch Rory for me I fail to see what he adds that all the others couldn't do. Sorry BBC but it just seems like a we need a black guy to balance this out in the same way a woman was added.
I've been impressed by LeBlanc and Harris throw Jordan in and I think you have a winning trio. The car geek, the millionaire movie man, the playboy couldn't care I owned a race team. Bring Sabine in for the odd feature to add some flare.
But then am still bitter as they didn't bring Adam Rayner in when they had the chance.

Seems to get better each week, I really enjoyed tonight's show, maybe it's just because the memories of Clarkson, May and Hammond are starting to fade but it does seem to be improving. It's still no Car SOS mind! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

I like Rorys films, not shouty and with good detail.
But on the Tesla film or any EVs why do they never mention that the batteries die and need replacing? As this is a massive cost of EVs and still bad for the environment.

Different tastes etc. Personally I like Rory and find Eddie Jordan pointless and annoyng (is he becoming senile?). I like Sabine but find Chris Harris a bit dull - but he is getting better. Matt LeBlanc has loosened up a lot since the start of the series and its a good move to make him the lead presenter. But Chris Evans is still the elephant in the room. Thankfully they have cut his screen time a lot but there is obviously nothing they can do about films that are already in the can like this weeks challenge - his narration was disjointed and forced.
IMHO - keep LeBlanc, Sabine, and Rory - They could develop more genuine chemistry than any of the others. Use Chris Harris for occasional techie bits and dump Evans and Jordan. And for the love of god, get rid of the celeb luv in in a Mini!!
Just my opinion.

I've been watching the new show since the start and I think Chris Evans is trying to be like Clarkson with some of the things he says and TBH I think Matt is better at the role than Chris is. Plus, I'm not a fan of the competition between the two stars in the rallycross car (best first car and best car they've ever owned). However, I can definitely see an improvement from the first episode to the one aired tonight. I really like Rory, Matt and Chris Harris and I think that they wold make a good trio. Eddie is annoying and even though I like Chris Evans, I don't think the role as Top Gear presenter suits him and Sabine is just a bit loud like Evans.
I think the show will improve as the series goes on so I'll still be open minded about it for now.

One new thing that strikes me is how irrelevant they're making the Stig. The old show had problems there a few years back, as we all remember, but apart from that he's always been portrayed as a hero.
Not so with this new series. Episode three and he's still being treated as an absolute nobody, despite the "We got custody" comment previously.
It just shows how the show is suffering from the whole thing with the new guys.

As you say different tastes - I still like the fact Chris Evans is involved, however I do agree with some of the voice overs and that maybe someone else may have a more suitable tone. Equally I don't have a problem with Eddie Jordan, as long as his input remains around the same level.
For me I would be happy if the budget remained the same but it was purely car orientated but accept this would not be possible, in which case I like this format together with the full line-up, it feels much like a decent magazine to me, with input from various sources, some I may prefer to others but with a nice spread of features and styles to keep it interesting and despite the views of some, not an ego fest!
I suspect the stig will also become more visible at some point as he is a good marketing tool.

Get rid of Evans and bring someone in with less of an ego and more talent for TV. As for comparison with old TG, that is inevitable as it is TG. But the Beeb wants to try and maintain a rich revenue stream. It will get better as they settle in, but GET RID OF EVANS................
