a workmate is looking to be making a rs200 kit car in the near future but we're both stuck for ideas for the gearbox.
basically the idea is to be using a sierra cosworth engine turned round so as to fit in the back with the box facing forward, but being as he wants it to be 4 wheel drive as well if he uses the sierra 4x4 box (mt75) then with it giving a 60/40 torque split as standard then in the kit it will be giving 60% to the front,is this adjustable or has anyone any ideas on a better or more sutible box to use?
of course he could go get a proper rs200 box but they are around 15-20k, a little expensive.....

Porsche 911 AWD box ? Not cheap but still a lot less than a proper RS200 item.

Cradeley motor works used to do a kit that put the engine in the front to use a std ford 4x4 layout .

Use an "ordinary" 4x4 box from something lik a landy, with the diffs inverted to reverse the drive direction. Ttfn Glenn

If you are having the engine in the rear the 60/40 will be 60 to the rear not front

But you could always use anything with an electronic centre diff to help split it. Bue due to the design of a conventional 4wd box, the split can never be less than 50% to the wheels closest to the gearbox

If you are having the engine in the rear the 60/40 will be 60 to the rear not front really? this would make it easier as we could use the sierra box. but our understanding is in a sierra the torque split is 60/40 toward the rear, hence when the engine and box is turned round for the rs200 then the split would be the other way round? ('rear prop from the sierra now driving the front) we've anticipated flipping the diffs thinking the engines turning the other way when installed

The split Is 60 to the front In a sierra, so it would be 60 to the rear in the kit car. Yeah, flip the diff or run the engine backwards to go forward :L

Sierra is biased to the rear, something like 33-67% front - rear iirc

A bit left field but what about a VW T3/Vanagon Syncro gearbox? If you're not dead set on using the cossie engine you can get bellhousings for them to use Audi and Porsche engines (e.g. 944 lumps) and Subaru engines too.

contact raceway engineering for a reverse ratio transfer box. They are used loads in the comp safari world.

VW T3 boxes are no where near man enough for the sort of power you'd want in a RS200 rep, they struggle with NA scooby engines or TDi engines attached, and have pretty short gearing too

yeah thought it might be a silly idea- was just based on the proposed layout, couldn't think of much else rear engine and 4wd apart from Porsches! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I'd say stick with the Cosworth 4x4 MT75 box and concentrate on how to alter front rear split. I'm sure there must be specialist who can reconfigure the viscous coupling
