[disclaimer] the photos in here may not be up to the standard of others on these forums I have a panasonic point and shoot or my iphone. I was impressed (amazed tbh) with some of the shots I got but I apologise to all you SLR camera nuts in advance[/disclaimer]
Had seen this advertised a couple of weeks prior and thought why not. So me and the boy headed down and boy am I glad we did.
We paid our dues and wandered in just as the first race was starting so we pitched our chairs on the exit of Clarke Curve
Straight away I clocked an interesting silhouette in the in field parking. One for tuxman
These were the baby supercars essentially GT3s (but strangely lacking in Porsches? I guess they have their own championship) Two Ferrari 458s screamed out of Surtees and up hawthorn hill harranged by a bellowing corvette. Modern supercars don't normally float my boat but hearing the differing sounds at full chat awakens something in every petrolhead. This continued for 18 of the 25 laps. Before Mr Corvette was a naughty boy exceeding track limits he either gave up or his tyres went off after this as he slipped down the order.
Another 458 that qualified at the front had a problem on the grid and ended up starting from the pit lane, he scythed his way the field in impressive style. I don't know what the issue with the car was but I suspect the quick fix was possibly exhaust related as it was twice the volume of the other 458s and sounded fantastic!
Race over we headed along the straight towards the grandstand and paddock. It didn't take long to find the first bit of awesome!
A full on replica with all the buttons on the dash. Moving on... Mazdas
Tastefully modded MX5
And a nice RX7
Back to my 80s bedroom wall pin up with her grandaughter in the background. Nice to see one bereft of hideous wing.
Another angle with a tasty Marcos Coupe in the background (seem to have missed that one with the camera - sorry)
A brace of gorgeous TVRs - had greats sign in the windows "Children please sit in the car and enjoy, scuffs and dings can be fixed but memories last forever".
Mean looking Jensen Interceptor - Lovely thing.
Marcos - I'm guessing this one has an ash frame - wish I'd stuck the camera under now. An ex colleague of mine had an early nineties spider variant that he built from a kit. A car that although it was never a looker it always felt than more than the sum of its parts when you were in it. They were a steel box chassis with ford and triumph bits bolted on by then. His had a single cam carbed pinto from a cortina. I remember an awesome blast in it to a customer site in the middle of the fuel crisis - you could get four star everywhere
Not seen one of these in the metal for years but there were at least 3 here. This was the earliest example.
