Mini British Open Classic 1275cc for restoration / barn find
This mini is largely original, but requires a full restoration. At some point it was resprayed a different green, and the Cooper badges added, but it is a genuine British Open Classic.
The Mini drives very well, and mechanically seems very good condition apart from a small leak from the heater matrix inside the car.
The engine is a genuine Goldseal unit (verified by engine number), but from when is unknown. Matches V5 but no information on when this was specifically fitted.
Has quite a lot of history and paperwork and also the V5.
Bought it last year with the intention of restoring it, but time and other priorities have taken over.
I regularly run the car and within the limits of my driveway I keep it mobile. It has a dead battery, but jump starts very easily.
It has had a new water pump fitted to cure a leak.
Mileage estimated at 102k based on MOT history.
Not so good points:
Last MOT failure in 2014 (before I purchased the mini) was mainly the bodywork and a few other minor issues such as dash bulbs not working and ball joint seals.
Electrical issues all caused by corroded connections behind dash and now fixed.
Bodywork is rusty and at least needs welding to the sills and the rear subframe mounting points.
Full MOT details can be found online.
The wings and front panel were replaced professionally in the past, and the car repainted. In my view, these need replacing as they aren't great.
Roof cover has shrunk and split, making the roof leak. The motor and switch are working fine and can be heard trying to move, so a new cover should fix this.
These are just the most obvious points - the mini is being sold as a car requiring complete restoration - viewing is strongly advised, but I can discuss other points and / or take additional photos as requested.
There aren't many British Open Classic models left on the road (far rarer than Cooper models) , and their price is only going to increase.
As it's currently SORN, test drives would be limited to a 10m driveway and the car needs to be collected by trailer.
Payment in full before taking the car please.
Located near Junction 14 of M5 (Charfield). Willing to help with delivery for the cost of trailer hire and fuel, but only within a reasonable distance (maybe 50 miles).
