An amazing UK Mk1 Mazda MX5 with just 12,678 miles and one owner from new.
EQUIPMENT
Laminated windscreen, retractable halogen headlamps, bright finish door handles, colour keyed bumpers and outer mirrors, colour keyed mud guards, manual folding black canvas soft top, rear tonneau, side impact beams, suspension brace bar, vehicle immobiliser, tachometer, leather steering wheel and gearknob gaiter, bucket seats, interior light, cigar lighter and ashtray, locking glovebox, locking centre storage box.
EXTERIOR
This incredible preserved Mazda MX-5 is finished in its factory original coating of Classic Red (colour code SU). The paintwork boasts a pristine deep gloss shine and impeccable finish with only miniscule markings, commensurate with the super low mileage covered. The showroom fresh appeal with absolutely no colour fade or deterioration to the finish is testament to the only keeper from new being fastidious about careful storage and minimal use. A tiny ding to the driver’s door, touched in scratch to the passenger door and a small paint bleb above the rear number plate are barely noticeable and have been left untouched so as to preserve the cars originality. The sills are spotlessly clean and the underside condition is truly commensurate with a pampered vehicle of such privileged credentials. The black canvas hood and tonneau are in perfect order with a tight fit and no cracks or damage. The rear plastic window is clear with only minimal faint hairline scratches. Even the often damaged or removed Mazda decal to the front bumper remains fully intact! The epitome of a modern classic sports car, preserved to the highest standard.
INTERIOR
Trimmed in the standard Black Cloth upholstery this interior is exactly how Mazda intended. Everything is co-ordinated and operates perfectly. The spotless high backed seats have integral headrests offering maximum comfort and support and show virtually no wear. The driver’s seat has a small section of bobbling to the fabric. The classic sports dashboard houses a cluster of crystal clear instruments that function precisely and retain a new car feel. The leather trimmed steering wheel with pristine white stitching is as new and factory applied stickers to the lower dashboard remain. A Moss alarm module is neatly fixed between the seats and the original Clarion Finish Line 540 stereo cassette is still fitted. The iconic MX5 sports car interior ready to take you back to a 1992 Mazda showroom!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
To experience driving a well maintained, tight and cared for Mk 1 MX-5 is a true motoring delight. The lightweight 1.6 litre 16v DOHC engine sits low and behind the front axle to offer a low centre of gravity and centralised weight distribution making handling perfectly balanced and delightfully responsive. With 113bhp available, a top speed of 115mph and 0-60mph time of 8.3 seconds is achieved. The time proven engine is lively and power flow very smooth with excellent low to mid-range torque. The close ratio short throw gearbox provides light and precise gear changes. Perfection!
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This exceptional Mazda retains its factory fitted 14” alloy wheels which are shod in quality matching Bridgestone Turanza 185/60R14 tyres with excellent tread remaining. The unrestored wheels show minor age related markings but still have prominent factory stampings which are otherwise lost upon refurbishment. The tool kit, wheel brace and covered space saver wheel are all present and spotlessly clean. Ventilated front and solid rear discs install maximum braking confidence.
HISTORY FILE
This astonishing example was registered new by Runcorn Mazda in Gwent on 8th July 1992 to first owner Richard Roseby in his company name MLR Computing. Upon his retirement the car was put into his name. The history file is simply incredible starting with every MOT ever carried out to fully track the exceptionally low mileage of 12,678 miles. Furthermore, the original Mazda A5 wallet contains the service record, handbook, supplements, radio guide, factory build cards and sales person business cards. The service record displays nine Mazda Main Dealer service stamps with accompanying invoices, and further receipts and a manual log of servicing has been upheld. Importantly, an invoice in the file confirm a major service, cambelt renewal and brake overhaul was carried out in August 2015 with just 15 miles covered since!
Competing the history file is three sets of keys including the original grey master key.
Mazda simply got it right with the MX5, and it is virtually impossible to find one in such original, low mileage and unmolested condition. This car is sure to delight the collector and is perfectly suited to an enthusiast wanting to experience fun and reliable classic motoring, just as Mazda intended when new almost 24 years ago!
MOT May 2017, HPI Clear.
