A special edition Ford Capri 2.0 Laser, beautifully detailed to original specification.
EQUIPMENT
Body-coloured grille, bonnet lip and light bezels, body-coloured door mirrors with driver remote-control, black painted bumpers with overriders, spoiler, tailgate wash/wipe, tinted glass all round, RS-style four-spoke alloy wheels, ammeter and oil pressure gauge, tachometer, quartz analogue clock, courtesy lights, perforated grey headlining, front reclining seats, three-spoke leather covered steering wheel and gear-lever knob, tilting/sliding steel sunroof. Factory options; Metallic paintwork.
EXTERIOR
This incredible special edition Laser was built as a run out model of the Capri and is beautifully finished in Ford Paris Blue (code 35), a cost option when new. A deep mirror shine from the stunning paint finish is worthy of pride of place at any show, with only a tiny marking is visible where the offside wiper arm meets the scuttle panel. All factory fitted panels are straight with linear gaps and the exterior trim items and decals are pristine to firmly cement the fantastic appeal of this very special car. A clean underside free from overuse of underseal allows inspection to see the good structural integrity. Hard to source fitments such as the rubber spoiler and colour coded front grill are excellent. The supplying Ford Main Dealer rear screen sticker remains fitted. This unmolested example remains exactly as Ford intended and is certain to delight the blue oval enthusiast.
INTERIOR
The interior is in excellent condition finished in the ‘Truro II’ cloth trim (code XE) with matching door and quarter panel inserts. The original material to the seats is spotless and remarkably wear free and the colour matched carpeting and headlining are both clean and free from discoloration. The dashboard displays just one hairline crack and two very small drill holes to the top. All controls fully function including the two-speed heater fan and analogue quartz clock. A period Ford stereo is fitted but is not working. An iconic and instantly familiar classic Ford interior.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This Capri is in excellent mechanical order having been well maintained by its previous keeper and subject to a complete overhaul. The 1993cc OHC unit with twin sequential venturi carburettor pulls incredibly well with a top speed of 113mph and 0-60mph time of 9.6 seconds. This engine has 37 per cent more power and 30 per cent more torque than the 1.6 OHC yet has better fuel economy making it the more desirable choice. The engine bay is beautifully clean with the original Ford battery cover and factory stickers and plates displayed. The 5 speed gearbox is light and works through the gears precisely, and the clutch feels positive.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This Capri Laser remains fitted with the factory RS-style four-spoke alloy wheels which are in pristine order with no damage. Five matching 185/70 R13 tyres have plenty of tread remaining and the immaculate spare alloy wheel, original jack and wheel brace are housed in a clean boot floor with factory markings visible. The hydraulic dual-line servo-assisted front discs and rear drums stop the car quickly and in a straight line.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 1st August 1986 by main dealers Laidlaw Ford, this example has had just three keepers from new and covered 86,653 miles. The previous keeper Mr Mike Derry, proprietor of Foremark Garage Ltd in Rutland has owned the vehicle since 2014 and undergone a complete restoration. A photograph album shows the compete strip down to bare shell and a comprehensive mechanical overhaul including brakes, clutch and cambelt has been undertaken.
The history file contains the original blue V5 document along with a collection of previous invoices and MOT certificates. Representing a superb example of the final edition Capri, this wonderful 2.0 Laser is ready for its next appreciative owner and would delight any Ford enthusiast.
MOT March 2017, HPI Clear.
