Oh, another 'want' was HMS Ark Royal, after it was decomissioned and auctioned for scrap a few years ago. It sold for 2.9 million which is quite a lot of money but then if you compare it to the price of property here in London, its actually a heck of a lot of space for the cash. So I'd have liked to have got hold of it and then parked it somewhere reasonably convenient to use as workshop and garage space. Perhaps live on it too. I reckoned you could park it wherever you liked really as it's a frickin' aircraft carrier so no one else is really going to tow it away. Camden Lock maybe? The only Ark Royal I've seen was the R09, sadly that was during the start of the decommissioning process. My Grandfather's Cousin had command of Ark Royal's sister ship HMS Eagle for a while. It's not actually a totally impractical want as long as you have an experienced crew to help out, (2,500+ of them);

I'd quite like a Chinook. I'd say that's pretty impractical. I see your Chinook and raise you an Mi-12 (with added Wartburg content).

A bit after his day but there are 2 HMS Eagle documentaries from the 1960's in case you've never seen them:- 1966, (BBC), my relative is in this one which is split into 3 parts, he's the one asking a misbehaving Lieutenant to leave the Officers Dining Room at the end of the 2nd segment. HMS Eagle Part 1HMS Eagle Part 2HMS Eagle Part 3And this, a 1968 documentary I think there are other clips on Youtube which include some 1950's footage.

Will watch them all and forward the links. Thanks. Mark

Mark With the length of time Eagle was afloat & the turnover in personnel I imagine that the servicemen who spent time aboard would have run into tens of thousands, probably still quite a few around!

Spitfire With my past experience with RC planes I wouldn't try and fly it I'd just start it up once a week and p### the neighbours off Actually, I need to add one of these to my list too, as one of my Grandad's was an ATA Pilot, and used to deliver all types of planes, but mainly Spitfires.

I've always had a bit of a hankering for Seakings. As far as impractical goes... one of these, I'm sure I'd get pulled over by the RAF for questioning all the time for being a UFO, If I had the money I'd slap in some Quad rotor turbo engines so it sounds ultra sexy too Behold the flying pancake

I can't believe I didn't include an Ekranoplan on my list. So now I've got a Chinook and an Ekranoplan, I feel I need something else...something more discreet perhaps? Something that people might not see me using... It's probably a bit awkward to park in London, but otherwise I can't see any downsides. If you do get one, give me a shout, a mate of mine could teach you how to drive it!

All kinds of awesome A couple of years back it flew over my head when I was washing the MGB. I heard it for ages before I saw it, I wondered what the hell it was and I was getting ready to run for my life, before this huge silhouette just cruised over. Makes the hairs stand on my neck just to remember it, so sad it's been retired

Makes the hairs stand on my neck just to remember it, so sad it's been retired I was 'inside' John Lewis at Cribbs Causeway (Bristol) and heard a roar and then loads of car alarms going off, rushed outside to see the Vulcan overhead. As a child we used to go to Lechlade, near Fairford, canoeing and the prototype Concorde's used to fly over quite low, actually that would be a pretty good impractical want (a Concorde and the money to put it back in the air). p.s. I flew (in) Concorde to New York, memorable.

I bet Concorde was good! It was funny at first because I'm near a busy road and I heard this whistling noise get slowly louder and louder, and I thought to myself what kind of stupid car is that.

Yes Concorde was quite an experience, I did it on air miles Such a shame it's stopped flying. I once, long time ago, did a course at Digital in Reading at the top of an office block. At about 10am the trainer just used to stop talking, that was when the morning Concorde flight used to go over.
