I would do almost anything to own one of these - The knowledge that my life would most certainly collapse keeps me from buying (That, and the minor parking issue) This turned up at work today - Just look at it - Not even a passenger seat! Battered, yellow, and screaming out to be slammed. What's your most impractical want?

I've always 'wanted' one of those trucks that tows planes. They just look awesome! I've seen the prices though!!!

An English Electric Lightning: from the days when we were smoking hot at making things. You want to see one in action (and bemoan the fact that you've now missed forever the chance to ride in one) Google Lightning to the edge of space on YouTube.

I'd quite like a Chinook. I'd say that's pretty impractical.

It certainly wins the 'impractical' category. Ever tried landing one in a crosswind?

I've always 'wanted' one of those trucks that tows planes. You mean you fancy a tug? Fnar. Sorry I couldn't help myself. In fact I'm with you on that. I'd love a decent tug. The lower the better. Also I want one of those other airport lorries that has a dropped cab. Like this sort of thing: Imagine that with a roof chop and some sort of camper conversion/race day trailer. On an unrelated note, I also want an 8x8 MAN lorry.

It certainly wins the 'impractical' category. Ever tried landing one in a crosswind? I'd have given it a bloody good go. Sadly despite previously having learned to fly at the RAF's cost via a Flying Scholarship during my time with the ATC, by the time I formally applied for the "best job in the world" and did the 5 days at Biggin, I was unable to hide from them a very defective elbow joint (that eventually got much worse to the point of very limited movement, which is where it has remained for the last 50 years). Survived the 5 days and failed the medical. Bummer! Challenging she may have been, but plenty of young squadron pilots did exactly that on a regular basis. British weather and QRAs just had to be dealt with in those days when everyone was paranoid about the Red Menace. Hats off to those young men who flew her in the same spirit as their forebears of but a generation previous.

it seems i'm not alone in my desire for the airport trucks. (Never knew their name before though)
There's just something about their big wheels and low ground clearance that makes me think they're just ready to go on the roads. Every time I go on holiday I think I wonder how you'd go about buying one and then trying to register it but luckily i forget by the time I'm home again.
But now this thread has reminded me... Whilst I'm on a computer...

How about one of NASA's Crawler Transporters? Your very own mobile answer to the M25.

Alvis Stalwart for me I suspect if I'd moved further West in Somerset there are certain points of the year it could be argued that it would be a practical vehicle...

In fact I'm with you on that. I'd love a decent tug. This is what happens when you get married... Anyway, the real issue is that the gearing is so low to provide torque, and they weigh so much to provide traction, that they only do about 20mph unladen.

A 60's American long range coach But i'd deck it out with a new generation motor for reliability and economy and deck out the interior super modern and super comfortable, use it for corporate transfers.
