VOLVO
480 ES MANUAL PETROL RED
1994
46K MILES
MOT-OCTOBER
I am selling my much loved Volvo. After wanting one for years, this came up locally and I made the decision to buy it and have some enjoyment. It was purchased from an elderly gentleman and as a result does have some knocks and bangs and scrapes. However, the overall condition is best described as solid, original and reasonable given its age. Performance is comparable to a MK2 Golf GTi 8V. Has later engine which is very good.
Good bits:
Cracking 2.0 (Renault)engine. Smooth, plenty of waft and torque. Sips the fuel and pulls very well given its age. 110BHP.
Original, unmodified engine and no silly spoilers or exhaust (Apart from aftermarket CD player).
Low miles, MOT Past/history can be checked online which verifys this.
Part Leather.
Alloys with excellent tyres (plenty of tread).
Turbo front lower lip spoiler (Rare and this was repaired by myself).
Windows/CL and sunroof work.
Powersteering and ABS.
Very solid, rear wheel archs are solid as are sills. Most of these are starting to rot.
Bad bits:
Creak from front suspension when turning (Mostly passenger side but would advise on checking both sides).
Lower lip spoiler painted wrong shade by myself (easily rectified with a can of areosol).
Gear change can be notchy sometimes, apparently a common problem on these. I live with it but might be an easy fix.
The dreaded Digital Display can play up. Sometimes works, sometimes does not. Common problem.
Headlights work but can be random when first turned on, moving up and down before staying up. Only happens now and again.
Front light units are tatty and ideally need replacing or restoring.
Passenger mirror needs replacing.
Passenger rear arch has had paint which is not a great job tbh.
Rear lights have been siliconed in.
Rear boot struts don't hold the boot up.
