Silver mk3 Granada 2l GLi reg F990RFH was stolen from Tower Road in Hindhead, Surrey, GU26 around the 9th May 2016. The car had a blue interior & was standard with steel wheels & Ford hubcaps. The car is an automatic & has a dented drivers door & damaged front bumper. The car was removed using a blue recovery truck with no sign writing. The thief is described as being male, in his 30s, of stocky build, around 5'10 & with ginger hair. Anyone recall seeing this combination at around 10-11am or recognise the description of the thief & truck?
No pics of the actual car available.

what make it worse is its pretty inacurate. The meeting was for mk 1 and 2 only, the car stolen is a mk3. Coventry all Granada bangers is for mk1 mk2 and mk3. Having said that, it could end up anywhere.

What can you say? Somebody else's pride and joy gone again. Do I read that "fix my street" post correctly: that somebody reported that vehicle on 5th May onto a public forum, as not having moved in ages and on or around the 9th some lowlife coincidentally scoops it up? Yet another "spot the classic" weak point for us all to worry about. Worst of all the busybody/trouble-maker who reported it didn't even check the basics: whether the vehicle had moved or not the Government info database shows it legally taxed and Mot'd. Sometimes you just wonder at the world we live in these days.

Car still had tax & ticket. Don't think it's been a council uplift. They have to put an abandoned vehicle sticker on it to give the owner chance to deal with it, they also have to inform the police if they do uplift in case it does get reported stolen.
Like you say, the report was filed, it was posted & a few days later it was stolen. The person reporting it will be oblivious to the fact that their doing has led to it going missing.

The person reporting it will be oblivious to the fact that their doing has led to it going missing. And more to the point she won't give a monkey's. All she knows is that that old eyesore of a car is not there now spoiling her view as she takes Tabitha to school. So for her it's a job well done.

Almost gone are the days of neighbours looking out for neighbours. Whilst most of us would agree we don't expect people to live next door to those extremists who would turn their garden into a full-blown neglected scrapyard unfortunately now it's all about "the property value police" and keeping those peasants out of our gentrified sight. Common sense and the ability to allow other people to also enjoy their lives comes a poor second to me, me, me! Busy-bodies and loadsamoney mentality, aided and abetted by sites like cleanupmystreet and those in local councils with a political agenda are a lethal combination in the life stakes.

I suppose it's a forlorn hope but no reported sightings of the car or the transporter?

Not yet, advised the owner to ask bus & taxi firms locally if any of their drivers saw anything

the internets the downfall here. without forums and the power of the interweb, I think stuff would be stolen a hell of a lot less.

The internet might play some part in it but there have been cars stolen that haven't been posted online, including cars that haven't seen the light of day for 10+ years.

the internets the downfall here. without forums and the power of the interweb, I think stuff would be stolen a hell of a lot less. Thieving has been going on from cars since my dads days he's 78 now and has told me about the ringing culture around London area when he was in his teens, any car could be had for a price and one of my dads uncles ended up driving a Packard in the 60s, not your average man from peckhams wheels normally!! Whilst I agree the Internet is partly to blame There are individuals out there who know where collect able and rare cars are and will nick parts or the complete car,, just wrong we all know that I live of the beaten track but lost count of how many times someone has told me about a nice Capri or cortina etc is in dartford,,,yep mine!!! It's just a case of being careful, my lads escort is locked in our garage wheel clamped and blocked in, it's not the most desirable car, but it's mint with nice bits on it which some lowlife would think twice about taking, even our old mercs aren't safe, a local firm was raided and shut down recently, nicking an exporting German cars mostly to African countries All I'm saying is just try to park safely and do all you can to immobilise your cars people....even at car shows

I'd be interested to see %ages for the number of cars on the road verses number of cars stolen for the 70's, the 80's, the 90's etc. right up to today. I reckon it was probably worse back then. It was common knowledge that if you had a Ford key on your keyring, you could (if you felt the need) use virtually any of the Fords in the pub car park, to get you home at chucking out time. Hence chub locks, krooklocks, selmar alarms, hidden cut off switches etc. became such a regular thing.
The 1600E was the number one stolen car in the early to mid 70's, you were doing well if you owned one and held onto it! My brothers blue mink '68 was stolen in '75, from Croydon and found in the Ashdown Forest, minus it's chrome rostyles, centre console, the wood and all his tools. And it had had such a caning, it required an engine rebuild.
XR2's were also a common target in the late 80's / early 90's. Luckily, neither of mine were ever taken but I was always careful that wherever it was left, was suitable enough for it to still be there when we returned!
Whereas now, if you have the software and a new modern key, gain entry to a modern BMW and it's OBD2 socket and you have yourself a new car.
Times have moved on and no matter what car makers do to prevent it happening, some oxygen thief will find a way around it.

This is why I hide everything that could identify where my car spots are, obviously street signs, house or flat names get edited out, even wheelie bin council stickers. I`ve even started putting them on Flickr in the wrong order, in case some lowlife recognises the location of one of my pics, he cant then work out where the surrounding pics were taken. Its a sad situation.
What ****s me right off is when I put pictures in Facebook groups then one thick ******d will pipe up "I know that one, he`s in Green Street".. Nice one you dick, saying that in a group of 15,000 people when only 100 or so post, the rest lurking in the background, watching, taking in all this info..
As has been said, car theft is nothing new, but the net has certainly helped thieves targeting specific cars (as have car shows unfortunately).
