He'll be keeping it company for a while then. Probably but not definitely . . . . We know the best 1300 GT's get advertised for up to about £11K-£12K and they've usually got 70 or 80,000 miles on them. It's quite an achievement to keep such a low mileage on a car of that age, (assuming the mileage is documented through service history, MOT's etc.) so that's a big selling point, who's to say it's not the lowest mileage GT left in the world? Bodywise, from what I can see from those photos it's not terrible, it's just not great, BUT it might be all original whereas every other GT that looks pretty has seen a full respray or multiple touch ups. There's a growing trend for originality over restoration. No-one's snatched his hand off but that's not to say that there's not an enthusiast out there who might give him close to his asking price. On the back of all the Brexit uncertainty I think the classic car market is starting to cool off now, let's hope it doesn't go into freefall like it did in the early 90's. If that happens he'll certainly get his fingers burnt! |

The finish on my 1300 was poor back in the day and that had certainly never had new paint. |

Being entirely honest I don't know what I'm looking at with those close ups, the car might have had paint during its lifetime the only way you'd know is to give it a good once over. The 'runs' I believe you're referring to look as though it's a corrosion process bubbling up from under the paint and I think that shot is looking downwards onto the front wing? (Paint usually runs vertically not horizontally). It always makes life much easier when vendors include oodles of factual information with a good hi-resolution photo portfolio which this chap hasn't done, is he just not very good at placing such ads or is he intentionally trying to disguise issues? |

BLMC paint runs? My father had a new Maxi delivered in 1975 with a filled dent in the front wing that you could hold as a hand sized lump on the inside.

That does look like a £9K 'cash in your hand' buy from a dealer who will then have it in, throw a grand at the bodywork and fettling and turn it around as a £15K car due to its 'super low mileage and one elderly lady owner' schtik.
These cars, as are many classics, are being bought by investors and not enthusiasts, I mean, with the best will in the world, most enthusiasts do not have £££££s to spend on cars they desire, they tend to buy what they can and then spend what they can making them better.
I would actually like to chop the b*lls off of these speculators, they are ramping up prices for good cars beyond their true value and beyond the pockets of most of us mere mortals.
So there.

The yellow gt will need a full respray to attend to all the rust areas. This done properly isnt a cheap task these days and desserves a proper repaint not a 'blow over' one. He wont budge on the price but i feel its a 7k car.. you have room then for a prof windows out respray at around £3000 to £3500. Then its a 10k car.. You'd never sell it for more as unless you was a dealer and had it in some fancy dealer show room with white back grounds! I did see someone mentioned it was a one lady owner its not.. it has 3 previous and current is the 4th so a new owner would be the 5th so not that low in the scehme of things.. id love the car saying this but with a price to suit its current condition not a hyped up price that i feel it and many classics are at.. spoiling it for the average person and enthusiast... 15 years ago they was worth nothing but still classed as classics! I sold a concours car 12 years ago for £3000 how times have changed..
And re miles... its not lowest gt left... i no off one just purchased from the isle of wight with 4000 miles in flame red and a rare one being a morris not austin badged one.. plus i no off a 23,000 miles one and my late farthers which is now with the jaguar land rover group to form part of a museum soon with 24,000 miles from new..

I was actually generalising as to how a dealer would present such a car, the manner is generally 'the one lady owner, only went to the shops and back in it' kind of blurb.
I agree with everything you say, the car would certainly need a full derust and professional respray, unfortunately the reality may well be the blow over and much hype.
Whether the seller will budge or not is a moot point, some would rather let a car dissolve into the ground because they will not sell for a penny less blah de blah.
I just wonder if somebody turned up with a whole load of physical money in their greasy palms whether they would sweat on a deal or not.
Some people go beyond greed and stubborn and go into full cretin mode.
I always had a hankering for one of these but, seriously, to pay some of the asking prices that have been ventured is quite insane.

The seller of the 1300 keeps banging on about stuff on the car being 'like new' when, surely, it's a resto job?? The paint is different to the boot area, the vinyl roof looks recent and the interior looks like it has had a resto job too? Don't get me wrong, it looks ace but why not just say that the car has undergone work to bring it to the standard it is currently in? The 1100 looks great, mind you, for the money, maybe, I would like an early 1750 All aggro. |

I'd flagged this 1300 up on p3 of this thread a few months ago, he was advertising it at £6½K. Auction ended with the car selling at £3,755.00. If it's as sound as it looks that's a nice little classic for the money! |

This thread started out with my Dad wishing to add a nice 1300 GT to his stable, things have changed and he's no longer looking to burden himself with more car maintenance. So, this thread has primarily turned into a 'spotted' thread for 1300 GT's for sale with the possibility that BMC Paul might eventually take the plunge. That beautiful Traveller is a good spot and I've transferred it to another thread. |
